True - I forgot about that.

It is actually a nice trip - Mrs. MBM3 daytripped to PAR from AMS on the Thalys.

They still have some seats available from Paris to Brussels for $35. For an hour and a half ride, I can't imagine Comfort 1 is worth the extra cost.

Thalys first class (whatever it is called now) is worth it, IMO.

I've done that trip several times in Thalys first class.

Looks like it costs about the same to fly from DC to BRU or AMS on that weekend.

Is it worth the extra $ over Comfort 2?

How much extra is it these days?

I think it's about double the price. ~$35 for Comfort 2 and $65 for Comfort 1.

It looks like you just get a light meal, a larger seat and free Internet access.

Comfort 1 is 1x2 seating with several extra inches of legroom and some free snacks and drinks. Comfort 2 is 2x2 seating with less legroom and tends to be more crowded than Comfort 1. Both (IIRC) classes had cloth seats. As long as it is not too much more expensive, I would go with Comfort 1. But, for a 1.5 hour ride, unless you are really tall or wide, you probably could get away with Comfort 2. For Paris to BRU or AMS, Comfort 1 definitely is in order.

See my post above. If it is only 1.5 hours and you don't care about the free light meal (which is not terribly outstanding) and drinks, you can get away with Comfort 2. But, expect it to be more crowded than Comfort 1. If they still allow smoking, expect cigarette smoke to permeate into Comfort 2 even in the non-smoking area.

Ugh - that alone would make me buy Comfort 1. I'll have to look to see if they still allow smoking.

Thanks for the info! ^

If France is involved, one can assume there will be smoking permitted. ;)

In any case, I like the 1x2 seating option.

CO's L fares from DCA are out, and are currently about $682 all-in. :td: I probably will fly KL instead.

I am still holding out that CO will lower the L fares - as the seat maps are wide open. I think it is better to fly into BRU direct from EWR.

PS - from sunny CNS (90 degrees) - on my second (and last) cheap QF F reward this year. Off to SYD for a week. Will wait until I return mid Dec before I make a final decision.

Good. I think Comfort 2 would be fine, then, as long as you don't mind the extra crowdedness. You can spend the extra $30 on alcohol to dull the ride, if need be.
