Put me down for Interested +1. We are trying to figure out our schedules around that time and seeing what kind of time off she'll have. ^

How did I miss this thread? After missing last year's official DO, I've been looking forward for an excuse to go to another. What better than a pub crawl across Brussels. I'm in! Looking at tickets now...

EDIT: I'm starting to think about shooting up to AMS for the latter part of the weekend. Would anyone else be interested? Just a quick and cheap train ride away...

While in Belgium, make sure that you go to the Deliriums Cafe. It is one of the oldest and best Beer Pubs (also has a Absinthe, Genever, Tequila, and Whiskey Bar). It is located very close to the Main Square. They promote over 2000 types of beer but specialize in Belgian Trappist and Monastery Brews. They also have a fantastic selection of Cheese and Meat.

You will find MANY local dining establishments en route to this pub. Not cheap,,but all very good! Make sure and try the Belgian Fries (traditionally fried in Animal Fat).

As for a day trip, one MUST take the one hour train North to visit the Medieval City of Brugges. Some of Belgians finest beers AND oldest brewery can be found in the Centre. Brugges Tripel, Zot, and few others are brewed there. Antwerp and Ghent are also good day trips but I would highly suggest a trip to Brugges.
Enjoy

Just bumping this thread back up and leeching a post from a thread about BRU in the Europe forum to do so. Five months and counting....

Thanks for posting that, sbm12. I came across Deliriums Cafe in my research and had it on the list of suggested places to meet. Perhaps the above review is a sign that we should make it official for the start of the meet-up. I'll have to see what other pubs are in the area...

Deliriums Cafe was (is?) in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most varieties of beer! Beer list here. ^

I was asking about future Do sites and was re-directed to this thread by the OP. I have been through BRU several times, but never gone past Bruxles Mitte. I did like Bruges, though....so I committed this blatent act of <bump>age!!!

:D

Bruges should also be considered as an option for a day trip at some point during the weekend; I believe they have a brouerij or two there as well.

I may have to bail on the trip. We may end up scuba diving on the Yucatan Peninsula instead. I like diving, but I'd rather be in Belgium than in Mexico.

Well, that's a weak excuse... There's diving in Belgium too, you know. And diving goes very well with Belgian beer. I'd be in! Bring the other half and I'll dive with y'all :D

You'll definitely be missed!

Thought I'd bump this up and ask everyone a few things. What dates are you planning to go? Are you buying tickets or going on rewards? What kind of airfare are you finding and on what carrier? Any interesting routings or side trips?

I should be able to get that weekend off, so add me a pretty close to definite. As long as y'all don't take all the seats and force me to jumpseat the whole way.

I'll probably go Thurs-Mon, non-rev. If i can find a good day trip, I'll do Wed-Mon or Thurs-Tues.

Keep me updated with the details:)

Great! I've added you both to the list!

You can move me to the 'definitely' column. Already got the flights booked. Barred hell freezing over, I'll be there Thu - Sat; moving on to Amsterdam on Sunday, if anyone wants to continue the festivities there.
