What may have been good for CO is not necessarily going to work for CO-UA.
That is very true. I think DEN is good for UA but could be good too for UA/CO. DEN gets a lot of feed from smaller cities in states like Montana, Wyoming etc....states with little or no LCC competition...and would likely be profitable. It would be tough to replace routes from smaller places to places like SFO or LAX with any kind of frequency should the DEN hub disappear. I don't think they'd want to just hand those markets to NW/DL.

As for PS, I doubt CO would kill it - it's a money maker for UA and a market leader. In fact, I'd see CO build a PS-only operation out of UA's JFK ops for both transcons and limited TATL.

AS not keen on merging either

As reported here, among other places I'm sure, the AS CEO is basically mimicing Larry's comment about going it alone. With their partners they probably can make it; I don't know that CO could with a merged DL/NW, especially if JFK can be tamed.

Not sure if anyone saw this particular piece, but it addresses (among other thiings) some speculation of a AA/CO pairing which I haven't seen much of.

I think this is nothing but speculation. This would face serious anti-trust issues and would require the divestiture of DFW or IAH to account for the domination of Texas markets that would result. I think this would be too tough a pill to swallow for either carrier.

IMHO, AA/CO would never happen. The Texas issue is too much to overcome.

Does anyone think Air Namibia/Continental would be a good tie-up? I think more options to Windhoek are in order. Are the folks at Smith Street asleep at the switch?

"CO and UA get serious"

LOL. Aeroporn, indeed.

UA: "Hey, nice winglets"
CO: "Thanks, I'll show you my Golden Share if I can see your P.S. Cabin..."
UA: "Right on, babe."

IMO, if DL/NW goes thru, they won't want AS as a partner. It competes with feed to SLC, and the combined carrier will want to expand RJ ops into SFO & SEA to feed transpac.

OTOH, since AS segments already count for status on AA, seeing AS tie closer to OneWorld would make sense.

I honestly don't know why so many people thing a merger is a good thing. I lived through NW merger with Republic and it seems NW never recovered from that mess not that they were really good before the merger. Granted seeing those DC-9's around doesn't help the situation. When NW had their little deal with CO way back when my first reaction was NW was going to mess up a perfectly good airline. Thankfully that deal hit the regulatory road block. My gut feeling is if CO merged, in the end they'd take the most bottom line thing from each company that's still profitable and make it fleet wide. I'm sure UA's 735 fleet will feel at home along side CO's 735 fleet once they replace the E+ section with 31" pitch seats.

Bring back Gordon Bethune

Gordon would make a great Interim CEO / Merger guy.. good for shareholders, employees and all of us great CO flyers..

not sure how good it would be for some of the other execs in CO though.. seems like things have gotten a bit off track since his departure.
