Sure. But, I assume LK was speaking with regards to CO, not a combined CO-UA, correct? Would new hubs/focus cities in SFO and LAX, coupled with ORD and IAH mean that DEN is less important to CO-UA than it might have been to CO? What may have been good for CO is not necessarily going to work for CO-UA.

AS not keen on merging either
As reported here, among other places I'm sure, the AS CEO is basically mimicing Larry's comment about going it alone. With their partners they probably can make it; I don't know that CO could with a merged DL/NW, especially if JFK can be tamed.

Not sure if anyone saw this particular piece, but it addresses (among other thiings) some speculation of a AA/CO pairing which I haven't seen much of.

IMHO, AA/CO would never happen. The Texas issue is too much to overcome.

Does anyone think Air Namibia/Continental would be a good tie-up? I think more options to Windhoek are in order. Are the folks at Smith Street asleep at the switch?

OTOH, since AS segments already count for status on AA, seeing AS tie closer to OneWorld would make sense.

I honestly don't know why so many people thing a merger is a good thing. I lived through NW merger with Republic and it seems NW never recovered from that mess not that they were really good before the merger. Granted seeing those DC-9's around doesn't help the situation. When NW had their little deal with CO way back when my first reaction was NW was going to mess up a perfectly good airline. Thankfully that deal hit the regulatory road block. My gut feeling is if CO merged, in the end they'd take the most bottom line thing from each company that's still profitable and make it fleet wide. I'm sure UA's 735 fleet will feel at home along side CO's 735 fleet once they replace the E+ section with 31" pitch seats.

Bring back Gordon Bethune
Gordon would make a great Interim CEO / Merger guy.. good for shareholders, employees and all of us great CO flyers..
not sure how good it would be for some of the other execs in CO though.. seems like things have gotten a bit off track since his departure.
