gmail and m.gmail.com to teh rescue!!!

Ok, but how does that work?

Ahhhh, the joys of dealing with teh BD ICC...

BD: "I'm sorry, sir, but connecting through zone 1 (BRU) to get to zone 5 (BJL) is not possible, as this is considered back-tracking"

Me: "Perhaps you could tell me then, exactly how is one supposed to get to Banjul from North America, considering there are no direct flights linking those two regions."

BD:

Me:

Sorry to hear - any chance of a chain expediting delivery to store on a special order?

I'm currently posting from while riding the bus to the military post - our mass transit system runs one bus there per hour.

WAP access from most phones, even non smart phones, can access gmail from the go.

Ok, but that does not achieve Steve's original purpose of having the e-mails sent to him as SMS; he wants to be notified when YAPTA sends an alert.

Apparently Wal-Mart is one of the bus transfer / checkpoints. There are four buses here at the moment.

I dunno if a redirect would solve his issue. My understanding of what he's saying is that the messages he gets from YAPTA are much larger than the standard 140 character SMS message size, so his confirmation URL gets cut into multiple messages and is thus useless. Funneling that through another domain isn't likely to overcome it unless some fancy processing is put in place to strip out the URL, encode it in tiny.cc, and then forward just that via SMS to his phone. Doable, sure, but a bit of work.

That is, unless I'm way out in left field and you had a different idea? I'd love to hear about it because this isn't the first time I've run into this problem.

one can do that by forwarding to SMS email address, knowing new mail is there and accessing it via m.gmail.com for proper formatting to get to it.

That was the case up in Anchorage when I was once riding a city bus up there last summer...

Yup....that's the issue. I have my phone set up to check my POP3 e-mail account but an SMS from yapta when an alert comes through would be ^. Maybe I'll send an e-mail to the yapta and offer it as a suggestion.....I'm sure I'm not the only person who has ever asked about it.
