Does anyone know a workaround for the glitch affecting the booking of SK award flights by CO res agents?

Mackieman Jan 11, 2010 7:47 pm

I thoroughly enjoy random e-mails and instant messages. One of the benifits of having a gmail address that is made up of the first letter of my first name and my last name is that people fat finger the addresses they enter and I get e-mail from random people who think my e-mail address belongs to someone else. Case in point:

I knew you had moved to Philly but I didn't know where or anything about it. And I've tried a couple times to find you on the internet but had no luck. But . . . now I've got you in my email sights so hopefully we can keep in touch.

I'm so happy for you that the Free Library gig worked well for you. And how exciting that you're now at the National Constitution Center! How is that going? I stopped by there in November and it seemed like they had money to spend. At the very least, it was a high-tech operation. Of course, maybe the extra dough they have is all because of you; maybe you've already pulled in seven or eight multi-billion dollar grants!

I am on Sabbatical leave this year and it's been great. I spent all of September and a couple weeks in October in Boston, where I had a fellowship from the Mass. Hist. Society. While in Boston I also did a little research at the Boston Public Library, Houghton Library at Harvard, and an out-of-the-way teeny-tiny little archive at Governor Dummer's Academy, which has the papers one New England minister. On the way back to Baltimore I did a couple days research at Yale. Spent a week here in Baltimore and then went to Philly, where I had a fellowship at the HSP and LCP. The weekend before Thanksgiving I flew to California. Did a day at the Huntington but then spent the rest of the week visiting with my brother and sister-in-law. From there flew up to Spokane, Washington to visit with my younger sister and her one-year old boy. (Her Air Force pilot husband was away on a training mission.) After all that came back mid-December and about a week later my parents arrived for the holidays . . . and a good LONG visit. And so the fall semester flew by, but I'm grateful because it was fun and a very productive time. I really found some good stuff in the archives.

This past week I've been getting back in the rhythm of writing. I'm finishing up an article that I'd like to send out soon. And then I'm devoting the rest of the time (aside form 2 small conf. papers) to finishing the book. UVA Press will publish it and I can't wait to be done with it. I still love it though, and I really like the way in which I've re-thought things since the diss.

I'm glad to hear of Bob and that things seem to be going well for you in that area. I'm still miserably lonely and alone but . . . hey . . . it makes fall research trips possible so that's a good thing, right?

So sorry to hear about your cat. How sad.

If I had known how to reach you I definitely would have contacted you during my time in Philly so we could have gotten together. But . . . sometimes I go up for McNeil Center seminars so perhaps we can get together sometime? It would be great to see you and catch up some.

Ok, that's enough. But again, just wanted to say it was really nice to get your card and letter.

Matt

You've heard right! :) Also, it's pretty cool to drive the Pontchartrain causeway if you have a chance/are into that kind of stuff - world's longest bridge (24 miles).

The other tour that is really cool is Mardi Gras World, just across the river from the Quarter. This company builds floats for many of the biggest parades and you get to see tons of them up close/learn more about the history of the whole spectacle, etc. Of course, CM, I can't remember when you're going but it's MG season from now till the end of February, so I assume they're not doing public tours right now...

Mardi Gras is 2/16. Too bad they'll miss it. If the Saints win the Super Bowl, the weekend before it will be unbelievable. The QB, coach are the Kings of Krewes Parades and many players are riding.

Mardi Gras World is now on the East Bank, on the river, just uptown from the Convention Center.

CM is welcome to use our car while he's in MSY so they'll have a lot of freedom to see more than the Quarter.

Upon further review, I am leaving on Sunday at 11:40 via IAH.

:-:

We will be there at that time. The s/o's flight is at 11:50 and mine is 2:39. Maybe we can meet up at the PC.

I think it's adding the YQ. You need to tell them to get a supv to remove it.

You are making me :( since I know I'll be more than likely missing a great JazzFest this year. I wonder who the great acts for the first weekend they are going to announce in a couple of days?

Dunno if you have yet sampled SK J, but I would only recommend it for a Westbound day flight. The service is fantastic, as is the food, and the seat is pretty comfy for sitting and/or reclining. However, the angle of incline is incredibly steep, even for an angled-flat product. I don't see how it would be possible to sleep comfortably on that seat on an overnight flight, unless you are a champion back-sleeper with a bottle full of Ambien.

I was playing around with .bomb booking multi-segment trips for a MR and I think I have it all figured it out. I was able to price out a 9K EQM trip almost all on CO metal for under $300. I like this UA partership :-:

Where are you going for 9K at $300? Overnight somewhere?
