Wish I was more sleepy now though...

i just bought 8 rockets, the rest were years old from my loft.

some of those rockets barely made it out of the launch tube (a loooong pvc pipe)

one of the 1 meter rockets was so heavy it actually dug itself into the mud so deep it could not escape the tube and make a nice roman candle out of the pipe. if it werent so cool I'd have said it was a waste.

Since OH made fireworks basically illegal, I always appreciated whatever our friends ended up shooting off, whether they were as impressive as intended or not. No injuries/property damage/etc. occurred. Never a guarantee how things would fire into the night sky, but never any complaints ;)

A general culinary question for da Box:

Do you have any New Year's Day food traditions? My parents (and grandparents, and so on...) were from Poland/Germany/Eastern Europe, so we always had pork and sauerkraut as our New Year's meal for Good Luck for the coming year (I won't comment as to how that worked out...). As I've moved from OH to FL, so being kinda in the South I'm doing Hoppin' John for my first New Year's meal. Do you have something special you have for your New Year's Day meal?

This is my own mini PWP now...

unkfrank Dec 31, 2009 11:36 pm

since I seem to be talking to myself on a major holiday...

unkfrank Dec 31, 2009 11:37 pm

so should I drink more to pass out, or "pace myself" and get tired naturally?

I am doing Hoppin Johns! I don't really enjoy them most of the time, but it is cool and some hoppin john and corn bread is sounding good right now.

How are you doing yours? Very traditional: peas (black-eyed, as opposed to field, since they are very Low Country local), onion, bacon (I'm using ham hocks) and rice (I'm adding some Rotel tomatoes, little bit of green peppers and collard greens) or your own version?

Forgot to say, I'm doing a mighty fine (the folks at the Cleveland Browns tailgate thought so) Mexican cornbread as well @:-)

I am doing black-eyed (some family just eats these, I am not fond of it!), onion, bacon (not much really), tomato, jalapeno, and a touch of rice, I don't like it being totally rice, I like to sop of juices with the sweet cornbread (not that nasty cooked grits some people call cornbread)

This is my new NYE meal tradition, and not having done black-eyed peas before, I'll find out the good/bad. But I'm doing the rice separate, so I can experience the "hoppin' john" flavor w/o the rice interfering too much. Next time I can change things if needed. And the cornbread can be my "safety valve" ;)
