Hmmmm, a little surprised on our beloved NC. Perhaps, the Republic of CLT was not included as it (I) can get pretty drunk here.:D

TimeWarner's abject failure to carry NFL Network is a major lament in my life.

I've got to move. Saw on a Weather Underground blog today that the Tug Hill Plateau could get up to four feet of snow by Saturday from the present lake-effect crazyness. :D :D :D

If I find myself with a winter to spare where I don't need to do anything except develop cabin fever and drink myself silly, I'm up for giving it a go. Teh Wikipedia page says some of the cabins up there have exterior doors on the second floor, to allow access when the first floor is drifted in. :D:D:D

Do you have to just stockpile a winter's worth of provisions if you live on the Plateau? Do they even bother trying to plow roads up there? Are there roads? I guess a snowmobile would be the only reliable means of transport in winter.

I'm seriously intrigued at the thought of spending a winter somewhere like that. Would want to get my student loans paid off first and be free of any other obligations, but an adventure on that order would definitely be ^.

You could just do what I did and live at the base of the plateau in Lowville. You'll still get 225" of snow, but you'll also get your street plowed and you can always take a snowmobile up to the Hill. I took up snowshoeing while I was there - great exercise.

Molson Canadian is priced as a domestic beer at the various drinking establishments around town. Because the biggest private enterprise is the Kraft plant I worked at, the annual summer festival is the "Cream Cheese Festival".

It's a dirt cheap place to live. My furnished duplex was $550/mo with all utilities and basic cable and cablemodem internet. And, the landlord plowed my driveway. ^

Coincidentally, I discovered FT when I lived there.

bdjohns1 can probably answer this better than I can, but I imagine the county roads get plowed...eventually.;) I've never been over there in the winter. I'm a little more familiar with the Speculator, NY area(basically the foothills of the Adirondacks) where you'll see hundreds of snowmobiles along side of the road, both recreationally and for survival.:D

See? He beat me to it.:)
