One of the largest issues with mainstream media is that they have to be ever so mindful of the people who pay their salaries, the advertisers. And I find that unfortunate as it tends to lead them to show some bias or cater to the broader audience in attempt to garner clicks or viewers.

True, it is an inherent fault of free market based news media. However, state supported news can be problematic too with censorship and all IMHO.

On another note, I wish they would give us SWU's for 2009, as I have well over 100k EQM's this year.

Any clue as to your spend?

Anyone wish to make a bet that next year, at some point they'll likely offer some extra SWUs at some target above 100,000 EQMs and/or 120 EQPs when the complaining starts "Why fly CO past 100,000 EQMs and/or 120 EQPs?".:D

Can you imagine being in his seat? The redaction snafu is bad enough, but the complete lack of judgement for post the document on a public government web site is inexcusable.

Oh really?!

Former TSA Administrator Kip Hawley said the document is not something a security agency would want to inadvertently post online, but he said it's not a road map for terrorists. "Hyperventilating that this is a breach of security that's going to endanger the public is flat wrong," Hawley said.

Well, the $30,000 spend will make it tough on mileage runners to make the grade . Call it the J. Edward Rule so it takes longer than a month for someone to hit uber Plat! :D

Not so sure about that -- very few bloggers do actual reporting (at least that I've seen). You will lose a lot of local coverage, etc., if newspapers go the way of the dodo. (I am a bit of a hypocrite in this respect since I dropped our subscription to the Inquirer earlier this year.)

I wouldn't go that far, but I consider Stewart to be a pretty decent news source (mixed with obvious comedy/satire elements).

I would think that it is hard to understand Stewart's humor if you don't already know what is going on in the news. Much of his shtick is media commentary.

In 2008 I would have easily qualified, this past year probably not since I mostly flew other carriers on TATL routes. Next year will be interesting for me as there is potential for more domestic business travel again.

He covers a lot of stories that mainstream media won't touch, because mainstream media is playing to the lowest common denominator (the nascent idiocracy), and thinks all we need/deserve to hear about are Tiger, Michael Jackson, and Anna Nicole Smith.

I primarily cull news stories from Salon, The Guardian Online, and Digg. The Guardian has been a bit  lately, as they're obsessed with the upcoming UK election (they've always been Labour's paper), and futbol. Usually their front-page stuff is good for a broad spectrum of news that isn't generally covered by U.S. sources.

+1. Stewart's more of a journalist than most journalists.

I find that once you scroll down past the 1st screen, the NY Times site isn't too bad. I also have a program scrape the NYT and format it for my Kindle (because I'm not going to pay $15/mo to get it delivered wirelessly when I can get it via a USB cable for nothing!)

Between that, Teh Beeb, and the Chicago Trib for local news, I'm good.

It's easy to learn not to do verbal pauses. It takes practice and people bringing it to your attention. Anyone who slightly tries can rid themselves of that problem.

I have no idea if i'll hit $30k, but it would be interesting to see what changes from a Plat.

I agree on the SWUs, i'm going to hit 200k this year and it would have been nice to have some SWUs going in.

The question I haven't asked though, if these SWUs get granted in mid-2010, and are good until the end of 2011, when does one get SWUs for 2011? jan 1?

It probably won't be $30k solely on CO next year. Work travel is always spread out amongst various carriers, mostly UA and DL.
