If you get a chance, visit the Samsung store in Columbus Circle. One of my good friends does Lego models professionally and he just unveiled a Lego Time Square which is on display at the Samsung store.

I suspect it's passenger density. For long-runs, the denser cabin doesn't likely make much sense.
With more and more open skies agreements, it makes it easier on carriers to add planes and flights rather than fly larger planes. The density doesn't change; it is just more pax on the plane and longer legs IIRC. They add length to accommodate those extra passengers. Sure, it is still 9 abreast and that sucks, but I'm surprised that the higher capacity isn't appealing. Then again, they seem to be positioning the 350s as the 777 equivalent and that would be about the same size as the 787-9 so I guess that's why UA is skipping it. Why did both carriers start numbering these news series planes at the top instead of with 1 or 100? Not a lot of room to grow the product line without sounding like idiots. |
Those without FlightMemories will have to sit at the designated  table for the AUS DO. :-:

I suspect it has a lot to do with the amount of competition all over the place. Back when UA bought their 744s, the number of flights to Asia was likely half of what it is today. Between them and NW, they had a pretty lucrative trans-pac route before the 90s auctions of NRT slots. Opting for the larger version requires to carry that much more fuel on the premise you may or may not fill the seats. This reduces the exposure and really the people they will likely lose are the ones paying the smallest amount anyways, not likely worth it. Hey, don't forget, there is a 787-3 though I don't think anyone has bought that. Reminds me of the 757s. They never did release a 757-100, though I suspect that would have been a fun bird. |

How would one get that job?
After years of doing it in his spare time, his then gf, now wife, encouraged him to quit and do it full time. And he has managed to do well. He's got two studios in Long Island City, 15 assistants, just released a children's book and I barely see him now. :) About the only thing that lures him out these days is a visit to Corner Bistro or White Horse. It does take a lot of patience and I know he's had a lot of sleepless nights trying to meet deadlines. |
avis trying to screw me, NOT POSSIBLE to succeed.
