Unfortunately, for many, satellite is not really an option. :(

likewise on cable here, but not missing much are we? :)

I had comcast in miami, I found it very ironic about their 'no signal loss in storms' ads they always ran, and yet they were down WAY MORE than my dish network is (or parents directv) even with storms regular around here.

A storm basically adds some pixelation to the screen for a few seconds, it has to be a tornado and hail generating storm to make it start searching for sats, and i can think of a lot better things to be doing than wathcing TV in such cases!

uh oh, that isn't good.

Did you get unemployment from CA yet, or is it all in the form of I O Us?

Yeah, we've survived the summer on unemployment and cash reserves we created before we moved. And California cannot issue IOUs for unemployment benefits because they are partially funded at the federal level.

Hasn't prevented them in the past has it?

I think there was a way to force into the old site by removing the 2 from the URL. But then when you had a choice of the new or old site, it would dump you into the new site no matter what you chose.

Rio Dorito strikes again.

Speed HD, 0730 Sunday - GP of Singapore. Night circuit around Marina Bay. I rest my case for HD. I just watched the practice and I sat there with a  on my face.

Me too. The shaking has ceased and the dogs have stopped barking, at least temporarily.

I bet there would be interest among the Box for those.

Indeed. You'd find takers that you know better and would appreciate it more, without paying a listing fee.

I was talking about a DVR, but yes, HD also changes the way you watch TV - I won't even look at anything outside of the range of HD channels.

We have an HD Tivo... and love it. The only downside was trying to get it to work with TimeWarner - it took 4 or 5 visits by them to get it working with the cable card. Other than that... Tivo rocks.

Yeah, satellite providers are always much more reasonably priced for TV - this is why I specifically mentioned cable providers in my post.

DirecTV here :D

10 year old receiver that will activate the VCR

Yes, DVR is a godsend. Especially this time of year (for me, anyway) with series premieres conflicting with hockey. It's only going to get worse as the season goes on. About the only thing I watch on an SD channel are Two and a Half Men repeats - not all of them are on HD channels in my area.

I went to the wrong info night - went to the thing on Grenada on Tuesday night, and declined St. Lucia on Wednesday. Everyone that went to the St. Lucia presentation walked out with three free nights.

Oh, before I forget: for those who want to do an overwater bungalow and don't necessarily want to go TPAC to do so, they are coming to St. Lucia. Sandals is building them.

I've got a non-HD TiVo as well (one of the Pioneer-branded ones with a DVD burner built in), and I let it record off the HD channels. It does a good job of down-converting, so HD shows play back at near-DVD quality.

My wife thought I was being frivolous when I got it, but now she asks me to fast-forward when we're watching a show live. :)

I just had more civet coffee a couple of weeks ago; it's actually quite tasty, and expensive, at $100/500 grams.
