Morning Box! For a change, I don't have to fly to DFW until this afternoon.

I found out yesterday that our upcoming flight to AUA is oversold in Y by 1 for now, and there are 3 open, but not for upgrade, seats in FC. We are on the upgrade waitlist with miles.

Send good thoughts to the CO gods who manage that waitlist for us.

Aloha box.

For  and :D I just played around on co.com to see if they'd move me from my oversold flight over to EWR to make my onward connection. Unfortunately it looks like every flight between NYC and IAH this afternoon is oversold for some reason.

Fixin' to be a  day.

At least I have my aisle exit seat confirmed. That's as good as gold on a day like today I reckon.

Morning, Box. Off to do about a nine-item to-do list, much of which involves running into and out of stores and various drop points, in blistering heat. Can't you tell how excited I am?

I had to import some weather from Teh Pit in anticipation of my arrival this weekend. Hope you enjoy it... we have been since late May.

CM: Do people go to travel agents just to book airline tickets? Im sure some do but their bread and butter would probably be full vacations (hotel, ground transportation, activities)? From what I understood, fozz is just helping people book tickets not necessarily planning their vacation and thats where the traditional travel agent comes in handy.

Many TAs, at least in the Houston area, appear to be cruise specialists. They often have established contacts with the cruise lines, and can pre-arrange unique benefits onboard that one might not get through a website like cruise.com (private wine-tastings, cooking classes, personal shopper service, etc.). My parents would often arrange their cruises to coincide with the cruise of their TA, as they would be virtually-guaranteed flawless service when their TA was also aboard the ship.

Looks like ALCO needs to make a trip to Uzbekistan to quell his rustbucket thirst: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...d.main/152732/ :p

My father is a travel agent and with the advent of the internet he more or less gave up on simple air bookings. He now specializes in "experience" vacations and can get benefits above and beyond standard stuff. He also has found himself leading "tours" of organized things he's put together, usually in combo of a cruise. He negotiates block rates and gets favorable treatment from the hotels/cruise lines, etc.

There is a time and a place to use a travel agent. As he puts it, he specializes in experiences, not travel. Juxtaposed with co.com, your  specialist.

The cocaine was a new revelation, but the others were bona fide prescriptions. He was due to have a hip replaced the day after he died and was in a bit of pain for that.

For our three big trips the wife and I used a TA. ^ The only thing I would have done different was to know the ins and outs of FFPs to get better use of my miles. :-: But hey, I was pre-newb. :-:
