No,sir. Won't be giving this one away...should be good! IAH-AMS is only freakin $580 A/I...dang,that's pretty low. Only $5 more to to into TXL and out of AMS. DB has cheapo fares for the early departure out of Berlin Hauptbahnhof...plus,I just enjoy riding trains. So, Hilton Berlin for 3 nights, see the sights (only have been to Berlin once, and only for about 15 hours at night)...see the roundabout view of the Reichstag, CP Charlie, Templehof, and the rest of teh sights, enjoy the ride to AMS, then....uh.....have fun in AMS. :p

Hard to pass up.

There's an SPG hotel in The Netherlands that's one of the best I've ever stayed in...and it's not the Hotel Pulitzer. If you want a truly unique hotel experience in The Netherlands, at a discount from AMS prices, try the Le Meridien Hotel Des Indes in Den Haag. I can't even begin to describe how cool the design of that hotel is, how excellent the staff are, etc. If you're looking to splurge, I believe they have an Aston Martin DB7 (or 8?) that you can pay through the nose for, for a transfer to AMS airport after your stay. They also have several other high-end, swish cars available for such purposes. The M.C. Escher museum is diagonally across the street from the hotel.

Usually, rooms can be had for as little as 155 EUR/night, which beats the pants off proper 4* AMS prices.

All this talk about TXL and AMS... now I want to go. Hmmm... maybe I can put off moving next year, stay in the same relatively affordable inner-loop apartment I have now, and use part of my 2007 bonus (which is going to suck compared to last year's) to snag a BusinessFirst ticket into AMS or Germany, and out of another city, with a few train rides in between...

Guess I should start learning a little German and Dutch.

Fess up -- who here's on Facebook?

J.Edward is (as Lurker 1999 discovered) but Larry is not.

So that said, anyone else out there want to admit shame and confess to being the proud owner of a profile? :D :p

...and if you are get yourself over to the FT Facebook Group.

ssullivan Oct 6, 2007 5:24 pm

I'm on there! And I found the FlyterTalk group this morning and added it to my profile.

smartinez Oct 6, 2007 5:32 pm

I joined too. It's not very active.

Speaking of techie things, has anyone tried Dopplr.com? it's a social networking tool for travellers (you can put in your trips and see where other people are going in your network). It's in private beta right now, if someone wants to try it, PM me for an invite.

If you search, you will find there is also a CO group.(one for pax and one for employees)

I am very new to this Facebook thing. What exactly does "joining a group", or "becoming someone's friend" do? Because it seems like nothing happens after. Or maybe I just have sucky friends....

You need to wait for them to accept your request.

Yes, several of the airlines have groups.

Another FT'er I met at the Do last weekend sent me an invite for Facebook the other day. Since it was the third of these I'd received in the last few weeks, I broke down and joined. So far I'm liking it... I've already reconnected with a long lost friend from college I haven't talked to in years.

I use Facebook but have slowly been making my way toward more LinkedIn connections for the whole "professionalism" thing  :p

I prefer LinkedIn as well. I'm 25 and feel its time to move away from the high school/college feel of Facebook and begin working with more of a professional network. Facebook and MySpace never really struck me as too professional... :)

ssullivan Oct 6, 2007 9:19 pm

I'm on MySpace and LinkedIn as well. I usually ignore MySpace though, because I get so many spam friend requests. Also, many of my friends aren't on there.

I like LinkedIn for the professional connections though.

I've not done the Facebook thing, and don't know if I will. At the moment, I'm getting hooked on Flickr, and being able to Geo-Tag all my travel photos. Using Google Maps to zoom in to the exact spot on the globe where you took a pic is awesome. I've only uploaded about 20% of my photos so far, but it's definitely addictive.

After my trip to Denver and Aspen this past weekend, I now have about 70 more photos to add to the mix. The drive along Independence Pass this time of year was stunning, and we got to see quite a bit of snow once in Aspen. It was disheartening to return to Houston yesterday evening, only to get off the plane into 85-degree heat (at night) with stifling humidity. Ugh.

I'm in the FT group at facebook. I haven't seen the co group...but I am in the WN group, in the slim hope that I would have won a free trip (come on vegas!) when I joined. Not so much luck.

I was thinking about checking out LinkedIn, but I don't know if its worth it for me. I work for the state

colpuck Oct 8, 2007 11:57 am

I am all about the facebook, and I am a member of the FT group.
