My trip there in May was my 20th...and definitely not enough, IMO (at least as far as Den Haag and Rotterdam are concerned). Rotterdam is a bit gritty, but it has some very nice areas, and some very cool architecture/design (as it got bombed to smithereens in WWII). The Westin there at 99EUR/night is nothing to sneeze at, either.

I so miss living in EDI, and being only a 1-2hr hop to just about anywhere even remotely interesting within N. or W. Europe.

I think it's because I associate work with AMS. I was always there for work and though I did enjoy Rotterdam and Den Haag immensely, I just could not shake the idea that I was there slaving away.

Ah...Forty Two. Even better than Eleven.

42 helped tremendously in getting my current job... my (now) boss asked me a bunch of questions at the interview, and the last one was "what is the meaning of life?" and I answered "correctly." He'd had a hard time finding someone who didn't look like a deer caught in headlights. We get along fantastically... he has a Tardis in his office, and that's hard to find in Houston.

No kidding. The last authorized Tardis dealer in Texas closed up shop after some sort of accounting scandal related to the S&L fiasco in the 80's. Odd that they didn't see it coming ;)

Billie Piper keeps popping out of it at the oddest times... it's very disconcerting

Humberto's failed sneak-attack on Houston got me thinking about odd hurricane names. Perhaps I had a pain pill too many last night, but I got to thinking up a dream-team collection of weird Hurricane names. With any luck, Houston can get pounded by Hurricane Ezekiel within a few years :p

My impromptu list:
(1) Angus, (2) Baldo, (3) Cheyenne, (4) Doris, (5) Ezekiel, (6) Fonz, (7) Gerhilde, (8) Hortence, (9) Iggy, (10) Jebbediah, (11) Kinky, (12) Lemuel, (13) Mungo, (14) Norbert, (15) Osama, (16) Poindexter, (17) Quita, (18) Renfro, (19) Sancho, (20) Torvald, (21) Ursula, (22) Vondra, (23) Waylon, (24) Xuxa, (25) Yakov, and (26) Zeke.

Alternatively, it would be nice if the National Hurrican Center could spice it up and have theme-name years. 2008 could be stripper names. Who wouldn't want their city torn to shreds by Hurricanes Cheyenne, Misti, or Brandi? :D

Hortense has already been taken...

I was *so* hoping for a 'snow' day today. :(

No kidding. I was expecting work and classes to be canceled today. No such luck. Oh well, at least I'm not paddling to safety :D.

Scary how quickly it went from a T.D. to a Cat. 1, and so close to the coast as well. Had that storm been just a bit further offshore before it began developing, it could have turned into a monster.

It's my birthday today... I was really hoping for bad rain so I could be "flooded in" and stay home watching old movies all day. :(

Happy Birthday!

You could still come down with a case of 24-Hour Birthday Flu and play hookey ;)

Some of the headlines have been hilarious, "Homberto slams coast" and "Homberto wallops east Texas"

ElkeNorEast Sep 13, 2007 11:17 am

Thank you for the birthday greetings, CO1E & ALCO! :p
