Yeah, I called DL (ugh, this was an experience) and their explanation for not being able to do this is that I have to stay in each city for four hours otherwise the online Multi-City won't work for these types of things. It wants you to connect.
I did IAH-SLC-ATL-MSY-ATL-SLC-IAH for $490.40 all-in and it wouldn't allow it on any date. I didn't realize this earlier because I left the tab open on my purchase and didn't see the error. This ended up being an hour long conversation with multiple people at DL and eventually I gave up. Maybe I'll try tomorrow. My dad and I were both looking forward to this. Oh, and when they priced it on the phone it was $600+ [KVS Availability Tool 2.9.1/Platinum - ZUJ: HOU-MSY/DL/HUPBV/421 USD] Code:
INSTANT PURCHASEThe $600 fare you were quoted doesn't appear to mesh with any of the published fares on the route (per KVS) - though that could be due to fare combination and there being no HUPBV fare availability on one or more of your segments. Perhaps they were unfamiliar with how to string together an itinerary like this, and got the tax calculation seriously out of whack, or some other unanticipated error. Remember that 99.9% of the time, phone agents (and even supervisors) are dealing with Ma & Pa Kettle attempting to book their once-yearly family excursion to MCO. It's a rare day when a Mileage Runner quotes fare rules to them and attempts to do something "weird" with a fare. |

Sounds like you got a phone agent that wasn't especially knowledgeable. Just because he or she couldn't get it done, shouldn't mean it's impossible. Nothing in the fare rules requires that you stop for four hours at each connecting point. Though I'm not 100% certain, a DL ticket office or knowledgeable agent should be able to book this. Here are the fare rules:

The agent I am speaking to now is having a few problems it seems but she seems much more competent than the people I was working with last night. |

Thanks for the information. I am on hold with them right now. I tried multiple dates and received the error every time. The supervisor/coordinator that I spoke with told me that this is not how the online system works and that you cannot do "point-to-point".

Dunno. I played around with a few dates on Orbitz, and it was kicking back $1800+ fares on multi-city search. Can't say that I searched too hard, as I'm fairly solidly booked with DL QUPs and mistake fares through at least March of next year. :D
I may try the 20-21 combination again. Now he's giving me the 'point-to-point' B.S. telling me that the system doesn't want to do that. I told him that according to the fare rules there are no HIP restrictions on the flight. He's getting a coordinator. |
I'll call back later... :(
I played with it a little and did IAH-SLC then SLC-MSY (automatically connects in ATL) and got the same fare. Still wouldn't let me book it. They could not do it over the phone either. |

I do not know if it has been discussed here, but in the case of IRROPS, DL may give you the bushwah that an HUP or QUP which shows as A on your record is really a coach fare with a courtesy upgrade and they are entitled to put you back in a coach seat (sometimes even when there are FC seats available) on an alternate flight without any compensation to you.
You must fight this resolutely because their Conditions of Carriage clearly identifies the A fare as "First Class Restricted." See page 25 and carry a copy of it with you. I have not personally been confronted with that situation but the DL flyers who have state that most of the time they have been able to retain the FC status by using this and standing firm. |
Important saftey tip, I like it sir.

Cheap B'stards!!
Flew from ORD-IAH yesterday. Our 3.21pm flight was delayed til 4.45pm, finally took off after 5pm.
On Continental.com they indicate flight time as ~ 2 hrs 40 min. On board they say "flight time will be one hour and 58 minutes". Two minutes under the 2 hours required for a full meal service. So what do they give me at 5.45pm? A bloody cold plate, with that nasty salami. I wanted a bowl of soup. Cheap b'stards. |

If they try any shenanigans, I will do everything in my power to ensure that I'm not trapped down the back for an 8 hour ORD-HNL flight with no meal service (or any other segment, for that matter) |
