As for Australia, it was pretty similar. Both times I cleared security at SYD for an international connection I did have to take out my laptop and baggie of liquids, and show a boarding pass and passport, but the shoes stayed on, and the security workers were friendly and helpful. Nobody was yelling "YOU MUST TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES! LAPTOPS AND CAMCORDERS HAVE TO GO IN THEIR OWN BIN! DO YOU HAVE ANY LIQUIDS OR GELS?"

The same things happen here in the US. TSA in the third and fourth tier airports (LBB, GEG, BMI, etc) are as friendly as their neighborly, middle American hometowns are. Its in the larger and Mega-Airports (IAH, EWR, ORD) that the crush of people and just living in a city in general tend to toughen them up.
And at LBB there is a female screener who does not need to be on the x-ray, but she is always working it when I'm checking in for a flight there on Friday mornings. She calls out "bag search" on every other bag, and takes an average of 20-30 seconds to look at each bag on the screen. So maybe they're more friendly, but the process sometimes seems a lot slower at the small airports because they tend to be a little too thorough in their searches. |
I survived my flights on watchuwant airlines this weekend! However, boarding a poorly ventilated Saab 340 in 101 degree heat is not something I would recommend.
I was also fairly impressed with the new Terminal A PC. I will definitely shuttle over there in the future if I have any flights from B (as I do in two weeks), as the B PC is an absolute pit. |

On a sidenote, 101-103 actual high, and 108-112 heat index gets a hearty :td: from me today. I might just take the downtown tunnel system to get to class from work this evening.

Gonna make a stop at one of the "establishments" while you're down there and have a refreshing beverage? ;)

And people complain to me here in the ATL when it hits 85 with 50% humidity. Those lightweights clearly do not know what real heat is.

I'm sitting at my desk listening to Virgin Radio (as you do), and that tart Amy Winehouse is wailing on and on about something. She's really irritating, I don't enjoy her voice and I don't see what all the fuss is about :o
Completely entirely off topic, but I just thought I'd complain about her. I therefore nominate Amy Winehouse to the PENALTY BOX :td::td: |

Quick Poll
Is snark on the increase in the CO Forum? Should we declare open season on snark in an attempt to root out this pernicious influence?
If so, where do we start - Perhaps with the Boojum Snark? I hear they're mighty tasty :D |
Another Quick Poll
What percentage (or mileage) for 2009 Elite Requal have you booked already? By dint of a DL Mistake fare in J (EZE-JFK), as well as a handful of excellent domestic F QUPs (also on DL), I have already booked 68,000 EQMs of travel for next year, which should all be completed by mid-March. The positioning flights on CO for some of those trips (which I have not yet booked) should easily put me over 75K. I calculated the cpeqm a while back, and I think it was about 4.6, which isn't too shabby for all premium-cabin travel. The cpm figure, obviously, would be a bit better (especially when you factor in any Extra Mile or Mileathon bonuses, on top of the premium-cabin and elite RDM bonuses).
Accordingly, it looks as if I may focus on hoarding BD miles next year, as I'll be Gold after my UA AKL flight in January, and BD will rollover eqms to rdms for any Gold who flies over 55,000 eqms as a Gold. A well-priced (at times $770 or so) and routed UA QUP in F from SFO-MIA could thus earn as many as 45,000 RDMs for a single roundtrip. |
