I love the winter in CLE. I just wish it went from the week before Christmas until Mid February is all

Ive scratched Continental off my list of potentials. I took them for a test trip recently: 1) couldnt complete my reservation online and had to wait on hold to speak with a live operator to make booking 2) I found the checkin process to be odd .... waiting in line to use a machine that seems to require the presence of an agent anyway. The agent seemed rude to me while talking down to me like I was a small child. People checking in to my left and right seemed to me to be having the same treatment from other agents. 3) Paid $15 each for my checked bags. I'm pretty sure none of the above issues would have arisen had I taken AA. So far the grass isnt greener. I still might take some different airlines as opportunity arises, especially if I cant use my EVIPs anyway. One a brighter note, to Continental's credit, the GAs were very nice and professional, even personally approaching us (unprompted) to explain a delay situation. That said, the overall experience was pretty bad compared to AA in my opinion. |

Personally, I would prefer that over regular 90+ degree days from late March through late November, with virtually guaranteed unbroken 90+ from June-September I think it hits 80 during the 3 weeks of summer. No one has a/c. I ....., but it really wasn't that bad a place to live, if you don't mind a small town (with no big towns nearby - Utica's an hour, Syracuse is 1.5 hrs, Albany's 2.25). Dirt-cheap cost of living, too, even compared to Texas real estate (when I lived there, I looked in the local MLS site, and I couldn't find a single house >$200,000). My furnished 2BR duplex cost $500/mo with all utilities, premium cable, and internet. |
I've about had it with AirTran. They have made it nearly impossible to use this free ticket. We have dates and flights with availability, and I've booked the paid ticket for one of us for these flights, but now can't get the ticket to issue on the reward ticket. And their customer service people are being a pain to deal with. I've had to call twice now.

In terms of length of winter season, not at all. It can be downright Cold (40s or lower qualifies, for me) in EDI on a daily basis from Mid September-Early June
It's not unusual for it to snow (with accumulation) end of Sept. into May. |

I have a newfound respect for Farrah Fawcett. I had never heard of anal cancer before so I checked it out on wikipedia:
Risk factors Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection: An examination of squamous cell carcinoma tumor tissues from patients in Denmark and Sweden showed a high proportion of anal cancers to be positive for the types of HPV that are also associated with high risk of cervical cancer (90% of the tumors from women, 100% of the tumors from homosexual men, and 58% of tumors from heterosexual men).[2] In another study done, high-risk types of HPV, notably HPV-16, were detected in 84 percent of anal cancer specimens examined.[3] Sexual activity: Having multiple sex partners or having anal sex, due to the increased risk of exposure to the HPV virus.[4] Homosexual and bisexual men are 17 times more likely to develop anal cancer than heterosexual men.[5] Prevention Since many, if not most, anal cancers derive from human papillomavirus infections.... |

I've spent a winter in a place where you are under snow drifts higher than your house and no store in 60 miles :D It was fun, I really enjoy it. Ate plenty of dried and frozen meats, and when the thaw comes had a lot of fresh game.
Not sure I'd want to live like that all the time, but for 3 months, it was great, and the net stayed on :D |

Regarding "visiting" winter. It's fine, it's great, because it's finite. You know when you are leaving. Spend 4 winters in Syracuse and then we can talk. If you're still alive.
G'day, Box! You've been busy! |
