I am proud to say I have never paid the "rape" charges for parking. I usually try to find street parking somewhere.

In SFO, this is easier said than done.

While I always do it, tipping a valet has always bothered me. Especially at hotels where valet is the only option.

I always tip at the valet, but I agree with sdm1130, I am annoyed when it is the only option at a hotel. I do have no problem in a place like LAS where the valet is free leaving a $5-10 tip if they can get the car fast and bypass a huge line. ^

 I am sure you were not the first. I have been in that position before and you really feel like a jerk. I know I have.

Lower back  lol

My biggest taxi oops was getting into a cab at Victoria Station in LON and asking to go to the Gorring Hotel. The cab driver turned around, looked at me with a combination of  and .

"It's right there" he said, pointing out the window. "I just waited in a 2 hour quee for a bloody 4 lb fare."

I felt terrible. I had no idea where the hotel was and figured the taxi was the easiest way to find it. I felt so bad for the guy I asked him to give me a 20 minute tour of the city. He was very thankful I wasn't a royal douche.

Especially when there's no other option.

I always either sneak into the employee lot or find a nearby surface lot. I used to always stay at the Westin FLL until they instituted a 'tarded parking fee "because they could." I stayed there so often for a while that I used to be personally greeted by the GM.

After one round of parking fees I started staying at the Sheraton Suites across 95 and after a half year or so I pinged the GM and said "how's that parking fee working out for you?" And attached a .pdf of all of my folios from the Sheraton.

It is my personal mission in life to get people to understand the high cost of small fees. That and the demise of NJ.

I once stayed at a hotel in SFO that charged for parking, but I would let my friend out and he would go into the parking garage and step onto the air sensor hose, like the kind gas stations have. That would raise the garage gate/fence from the inside and I saved myself about $35 a day.

You don't want it. We were outside the other day in Alaska in 30 below with wind. You cannot believe how quickly you start to freeze. I am never going back there in the winter. Period.

I paid about 37. GBP for a week at the Park Lane in London. Not bad, but with the exchange rate it's

You could have given him a few dollars on top of the 22 Euros. I once paid and tipped for one taxi ride in three different national currencies all of which were accepted with gratitude by the driver.
