The only downside to this is if you don't think a lot of folks will take the voucher (e.g. high business route) then you can hold-out for a higher offer. It stinks to get only $200 when they would have gone up to $500. Also don't be shy to negotiate things like confirmed BF / F on later flights. Won't always work, but if the agent likes you, and you make them your advocate, you'll have better leverage. |

I'm obviously in a questioning mood today!
I have a question for you guys. If you think a flight is going to be full or oversold, and you want to take the oversell voucher, what do you do? do you go to the GA and let them know if the flight is oversold, you'll take a bump? Or do you wait for them to call it and then run up to the counter? I'm only saying this because I missed out on two potential bumps last week. On one, I missed it because I wasn't at the gate when they called it (I was in the PC), and on the second one, they needed one person and a guy literally ran at speedy gonzalez speed and made it to the desk before I'd even stood up from my chair!!! He obviously knew somehow that the flight was oversold and positioned himself to zip to the desk speedy-quick. Just wondering if you have any tips for me. I am flying EWR-IAH-HNL-EWR on Monday on a MR and see that the IAH-HNL flight looks like it might be overbooked (all economy seats are "taken"). I was thinking of trying to get a bump on that flight. |

Bumps are hard to predict in advance.

Proactively mention it to any CO employee that will listen (better if they're working the flight). Also keep tabs on pda.continental.com/info about how many people are standing by for the flight, and seat availability.

It's best to ask the GA before they annouce. One way to also find out if they may do bumps is to ask at the PC if you're there early if it looks like VBD opportunity. They typically won't start asking for volunteers unless the flight is over sold by 10 people or they know pretty much everyone has checked-in.
Thanks! What does VDB stand for? |

RE: VDB, if CO is really way over they'll call pax on the flight and offer them VDB and alternate flight arrangements hours before departure. I've gotten such calls. |
Ugh. Just had to rinse out my contacts in the CLE P-club after quirting myself in the eye with the lime from the vodka & soda. Shouldn't have checked through my saline. :(
