My mother did it years ago; can't remember if it was Chiang Mai or Rai. Said it was the most atrocious smell she'd ever experienced. The horrific smell alone is enough to make me want to subject my fiancee to it. She was playing Super Mario 3 with me last night and the horizontal scroll screen where you have to line up the pieces was making her dizzy. With a tolerance that low, I can see Thai elephant smell making her pass out and/or puke.

Right, but it can't be much cheaper, can it?

I don't grok this. You get on the plane and you end up somewhere. 7 hours instead of 14 for TPAC. :-:

Its weather makes Teh Pit's summer feel like a cool autumn day. :-:

Aye, but belynch and The Canuck are damaged people, you see. They actually enjoy festering. Science has found no cure. :(

What are the taxes on that, like 700 Euro?

I don't remember there being a terrible stench. We were pretty diligent in picking a vendor that didn't [flagrantly] abuse the elephants.

If you want fun, climb the 1,272 step* path up the side of a mountain in the "footprint of Buddha" at Wat Tham Sua in 98 degree heat with 95% humidity with only 12 oz. of water. I think I lost about 10 lbs doing that.

*Thai style steps. Not your average 18" guys, these are carved into the side of the mountain and are not gentle.

That's interesting; it should be 145/ticket, unless the MLE-SIN Y segment somehow is throwing it off.

Are you staying in SIN for any period, or are you venturing out to nearby places?

That has to be ceaselessly frustrating.

I was a bit intimidated by going to Japan at first, what with the language and cultural barriers, but having been there it's not that bad. In the populated tourist areas you'll find some English signs and can get around fine enough.

I'd like to go back to Asia, preferable HK. I'd have to get a tour guide from rkkwan for that one. :-:

I really do not get the appeal of Thailand.

The cities are, by and large, not all that clean or attractive; the beaches are, by and large, not all that spectacular; the natives' smiles are, by and large, merely a con act; many of the (younger) tourists are, by and large, trying to re-live their college spring break days; many of the (older male) tourists are, by and large, trying to re-live their college spring break days (but with women of a different ethnic group); the place is not, by and large, all that cheap; etc etc etc.

Ha. If FareCompare is right (big if), then it should come out to around $594a/i, which is a pretty good fare to CPH from IAH.
