Now for employees where it may impact their life I have more sympathy, but working together will help in that to some degree.

I find it most interesting that the UA folks are going silly over the livery change, when most of UA's planes haven't even been converted to the new old look. I wouldn't have care what the planes looked like if the New United had keep the Continental name. :(

As far as my job goes.....I haven't a clue. The current lowest seniority date at UA SFO is 1997. I am 1986 but I have no idea if they will use straight date-of-hire when we become one airline. I believe that I will have a job but I will more than likely be on the bottom of the totem pole.

That warrants a hotel for the night. Good luck.

Yes indeed BOS isn't the best place to start a cheap flight from it seems looking at the MR forum since the beginning of the year. NYC is so close, yet to far away that it takes another day of ground travel or a positioning flight.

I can't remember what thread I put it in, but I find it amazing how badly UA bungled the possibilities they had with FT. CO, WN, LH, and :-:Wood do it right, IMHO. DL and UA are epic fail.

Maybe with CO's management team coming onboard, UA will receive the gift of clue.

Marriott has been pretty good too. It is my hope that CO Insider becomes UA Insider and the great tradition we've enjoyed in the CO forum continues wherever we wind up.

I assume you have done this, but have you looked at flying out of PVD or MHT to destinations WN serves? That's usually how one finds decent deals out of PHL (one-stop service to WN cities on the west coast, especially SMF and SNA which are not served non-stop from PHL).

BOS was good for the AA folk last year with the DRDM's (300% for Plt/ExPlt) on Transcons.

I usually put PVD and MHT into the search engine as well but I've yet to see a circumstance where an international itinerary is better out of those cities than BOS. Using WN for a west coast positioning flight makes less sense for my particular situation since I'd rather have those miles towards requalification since my time is relatively limited and another 5-6k from the transcon would help significantly.

I saw that but deliberately didn't participate. I have a hard enough time keeping status on one airline, no way I'm going to try for 2. The only small blessing of the CO/UA merger is that now I can keep status on one airline and get to nearly all parts of the country expediently, plus (hopefully) get better benefits flying internationally.

SMF has not been nearly as MR-friendly recently. I check it every time I'm building a run. The best SMF moment for me came when I couldn't go there. I was working at Borgata and one of my guests needed to get to SMF. 24 hours out, I found F all the way for $437ai on CO. I convinced him on the spot. :D Wish I could have jumped on that.

He's not saying to fly WN the whole way.

You know, you can leave the airport and see a little bit. :D

Heading down to the Kenai Peninsula for a day might be a good activity.

And just hanging out at the Moose's Tooth running through all the drafts and lots of pizzas is another good option.

And a PM to any of the ANC guys that you have seen on this thread (eg: beckoa, jackal, BOB W, etc) and posting on the ANC meeting thread should get you lots of company.

That's the wild card and will undoubtedly turn into a giant kerfuffle for the next decade.

I think you're in a good position being a CO employee, with CO management more or less taking the reigns. Where you're going to have some  is being located at a UA hub. Your job should be fine. But where you fall on the seniority list and whether you like the work environment, are two huge wild-cards though.

Who knows, maybe in a year or two they will offer you a great buy-out (yeah right) and you can use your talents and skills for something you enjoy. I'm sure that option will exist if you want it.

I'll keep you in my 's.

Starting out of PHL though, right? I'll keep an eye out. Right now the cheapest Star Alliance fare out of PHL is still 6cpm.

Maybe a trip to Sydney is in order. That's 20K miles right there. Plus a trip to PVG and at least I'm out of the base metal category..

I missed the "long-haul" part. Given the poor earnings of cheap LH and LX fares, you would presumably want to connect on CO, UA, or (if you are feeling brave) US. US sometimes runs international last-minute specials.

@:-)

Or at all, for that matter. The legacies usually match WN's fares on one-stop routings.
