Then most of my travel is actually random vacation and not MR. Even the straight turns to MEX involved leaving the airport in PTY and MEX, meeting people, etc.

Ding ding. If I happen to meet up with someone while on an MR, so be it. But the nature of mileage running is, IMHO, to not care about arriving at the destination.

Good Afternoon Box - This bout of great promotions that have been available in recent months (the Citi Cards, Chase Accounts, the United Visa) have been terrible from a status standpoint - - it seems that all my flying is on a rewards basis these days. It's a vicious cycle...

How I'd love to do that.

I always thought the commonly accepted definition of an MR was getting on a plane with no regard for the destination and only being there so as to earn the miles. Vacationing for a purpose is opposed to that idea, no? You're going to the vacation spot with the purpose in mind of vacation.

Well, I go to HNL for the purpose of earning the miles getting there and back, not for being in HNL. It wouldn't matter to me what that destination was so long as the 2.5cpEQM number was there. But I stay the required two nights and find stuff to do while I'm there. It is certainly a gray area for me but one I don't mind being in.

I think a few of the Tampon runs were the only ones that I did as pure MRs. One of those was a bit more than an MR, as :rolleyes:v and I were busy consuming every last drop of alcohol in P.S. F ^

Most of my Box-related activities have involved flying somewhere, meeting up for an event, and flying out the next morning. I don't personally consider that a MR even with the most BD-enabled (and formerly NW-enabled) routing. Flying and having a scheduled meet-up in the PClub while waiting for a connection is clearly MR territory.

If you're burning that many miles on awards, it means a lot of premium international flights (no complaints from teh Box).

Morning Box.

Big news. We're moving. Job offer happened this morning, which we expected. Final details to be worked out, but sometime between now and June 1 we've got to get to the DC area, and we've got a vacation taking up half of that time.

Tonight I get to enjoy what may be my last evening of sanity for the next 3-4 weeks by having dinner with my sisters in Houston. After that, what little time I have at home will likely be consumed by preparing for the big move, selling a car, and finding someone to rent our condo.

This is going to be fun. I'm very excited, but life is going to be crazy for a while.

Very cool. We'll have to meet up when I'm next in D.C. visiting family and friends.

UA shoots back at WN and replaces three regional CHI-LGA frequencies with mainline, and there's got to be some contract that UA got with the U.S. Navy - IAD/ORD-PNS?

Also on Aug. 24, 2010, United will begin new daily roundtrip service between Houston and Los Angeles. United Express carrier SkyWest will operate the service using 66-seat Canadair Regional Jet aircraft. The eastbound flight will depart at 11:40 a.m. and arrive at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston at 4:53 p.m. The westbound flight will depart at 5:40 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 7:15 p.m.
No thanks. I don't want to fly to the west coast in a CRJ. I'll take mainline* for $300, Alex.

*Or US EMB170/175s or 190s, if they were ever offered.
