I was favorably impressed with the property prices out there, but I'm concerned that it would be next to impossible to grow a vegetable garden.

Plus, at least with regard to Alpine, nothing seemed to be open on Sunday night except for Sonic and McDonalds...and the idea of driving 60 miles round trip for a meal just doesn't appeal to me.

It's amazing how much better my work shirt looks when it's hanging in my closet and I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts instead. :D

There are a lot of things shocking about that statement.

The fact that you're not drinking sweet-tea is probably the most glaring...

Sweet tea is my kryptonite.

How long ago were you out there? I know of a few restaurants in Alpine that are open on Sunday, but yeah, for the most part, you'll have to go to Marfa or Marathon for a good meal on Sundays.

I'm in Panera because it's down the street from my client's office and I have another couple hours to wait for them due to an unexpected schedule change.

As for the sweet tea...bleeechh. YMMV. :)

I'm guessing you worked in Fair Lawn, then. I've done a few bits of work there, but haven't been there in a couple of years.

Fig Newtons fresh off the line are quite good. I've sampled them over in Chicago.

Yes, Fair Lawn. There was nothing better than fresh cookies right off the line. ^

That only happens once, maybe twice a year.

The pluses are that they have actual seasons, there's no humidity, and life just seems a little less stressful.

I'd prefer to live more in the mountainous regions out there, but there are not a lot of communities that appeal to me (besides Alpine).

I think the dust knew I was coming to Lubbock. It happened to me on a fairly regular basis.

I always liked working in Lubbock, as well as Alpine. I'd never want to live out there though. Great places to visit, but way to middle of nowhere and small for me to actually consider living there. But I do miss my frequent West Texas work trips.

That's part of the trouble with my job. You get an assignment for a couple of years, get to know the community and people you work with well, find things to love there, and then the project ends and you go someplace else. Earlier today we were chatting about Minneapolis and St. Paul at work, as one of the women I work with at this client grew up in the Twin Cities. I loved working there during the two years I was there every other week and still miss going there as well.

This past Christmas. During the day, things were, within reason, fine. After about 3:00, good luck. Even the very kind women at the Museum of the Big Bend lamented the situation.

Fair Lawn is a nice town. I like it. They have a lot of problems with their Volunteer EMS service though, but all in all it is a nice place to live.

Ever heard of raising cattle, processing, and a back yard grill? Out there you would :D

It was not me who took a c@rp in the air sickness bag. And it won't ever be me doing that. I at least have the sense not to get on a midget plane with no lavatory when my colon is on the verge of exploding.

Sunday nights are rough out there. Weeknights can be pretty slim picking after 8:30 PM as well.

And no, you would not be able to have a vegetable garden in most of the region, although some areas in the Davis Mountains do get a decent amount of rain.
