The dissapearing EUA

So this is frustrating. A co-worker and I booked a U class ticket from IAH-ATL and TPA-IAH. He JUST made Gold. I am a 2nd year plat. Since this was a multi-city res neither of us could view our reservation or check in online for some reason. He decided to call CO because he is a fan of checking in. He then let me know he was upgraded. Obviously I figured I was as well. So I call CO. I was NOT upgraded. I checked in online and have been added to the wait list. So. A new gold on U got upgraded ahead of a PLAT on U. That makes about as much sense as a football bat. I brought this to CO's attention. Apparently the Rep "did something she was not supposed to do". How much is this happening and taking seats away from the folks who are ahead in line?

Bizarre. Did he upgrade w/ miles? Check in at the 24 hour window and was able to upgrade that way?

Once upon a time there use to be a bug in the system that allowed elite, regardless of level, to upgrade to F assuming there was space when the person checked in. This occurred at the "Do you want to check for an elite upgrade" screen and if the customer checked yes than the upgrade would be processed without regards to status (again assuming there was an seat open in the upgrade bucket.) IIRC CO said they addressed this particular bug but perhapses it is cropping up again.

mkahanek, can you offer any more details as to what happened? Was your co-worker on a full Y ticket, did he use miles to upgrade, etc.

nope

no miles no nothing. CSR simply courtesy upgraded him. He didn;t complain about anything at all. Simply called. Stated he could not check in online. CSR checked him in and said "I have also upgraded you". Net result. One less seat for EUA.

I do not think a phone based CSR can check you in for a flight, EUA yes, but check in no. At least that is what I have experienced in the past.

Please post the flight details, maybe COInsider will be able to investigate the fine details of this flight experience.

PM to CO Insider the flight information and your names and/or OP numbers. He will want to know what happened, and he'll report why. It doesn't like proper procedure were followed.

I was under the impression that phone agents can only Y UPgrade you.

More details are definitely needed.

When he was on the phone with the CSR, did he do the "upgrade flirt?" It works better in person probably (assuming he's handsome), but maybe if he has a good voice

Seriously, I'd be PO'd, too. You should direct this to Scott (Co Insider) to find out what happened.

Snap back

I don't know the details because I didn't get to interrogate the guy, but there was a gentlemen on this mornings IAH-PHL flight that was sent back to coach claiming he was first upgraded to FC, then downgraded back to coach. While this was going on, the GA was upgrading other people.

I wish I would have found out more details, but thats what the guy said

On more than one occasion customers have been confused about which segment the upgrade notification refers to. Sometimes it is for their return flight, not the flight they are about to board.

Have a Great Day!
