Suggest you refer to past posts where no upgrades are being done (just selling FC seats) and upgrades are done at the gate whatever is remaining.

Have read them. I'm not convinced that it's deliberate or intentional. From my own recent upgrades I very much think it is a product of the fare class changes.

Before the changes, my upgrades were processing correctly. Ever since, there seem to be anomalies.

I feel like all my CO EUAs are anomalies...I'm like <10% as a Plat/1K.

Really? Not one seat sold on my 10/9 flight and no upgrade on a Q fare? Something is up. EUAs are like not even occurring anymore

How convenient of you to leave off the buy-up price (and your original fare cost/basis). I'll bet this was NOT a TOD.

The "evidence" I was asking about related to the supposed TOD upgrades ("tens of dollars" for you PMUA folks). I agree CO is seemingly being very stingy with upgrade inventory and I've speculated that there is probably something going on, hopefully temporary. They can't even seem to sell that many ELR seats to non-elites, so I'd guess that take-up on the first class buy-up offers (at the true fare difference) are probably limited.

Similar deal yesterday on IAH-MSY - all upgrades processed at the gate. So, no choice of seat.

Yes, this is my main beef about the withholding of large amounts of R/RN inventory that then get cleared all at once. Though on my recent flight they cleared only about 1/2 the empty seats at about T-1 hr and I had enough time to request a better seat from the agent (I would have done it online but my reservation was out of sync for some reason, even the kiosk wouldn't work).

Well, they are, like, occurring. People are posting examples of one leg clearing in advance and one leg not clearing until the gate despite many unsold seats. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason. Perhaps they laid off a few revenue management analysts and nobody has picked up the slack yet for their specific routes.

I've flown PHL-IAH monday morning probably 3 or 4 times over the past 2 months, I received an EUA at T-5 everytime. This time at T-5, F is completely empty and no EUA's

PHLstudent Oct 5, 2011 9:58 am

I am on PHL-IAH the 545am flt on Friday. Right now showing 1 of 16 booked. No one has been upgraded. Same for my connection to SEA, only 8 seats open on a 757-300. Sounds like from browsing through the thread, just need to wait to hopefully get upgraded at the gate.

Another data point: flying IAH-SAT Friday. F is booked at 0 and obviously no u/g yet.

Tracer_SEA Oct 5, 2011 4:15 pm

I've experienced similar randomness with EUAs (or rather lack thereof)

I switched from using my UA1K to my COPlt number, but has made no difference

Paging UAInsider for any info they can share

In looking through FLL-EWR flights for tomorrow and Friday, it seems as if EUA is turned off. Coach is wide open (sometimes EUA is restricted if Y is full) so it seems as if there is an error...there shouldn't be so many flights for tomorrow/Friday that are only showing 1 or 2 people in F with many on the upgrade list.

Not necessarily. If F=3 and R=1, the F you purchased doesn't come out of R. Revenue management is behind both UA and CO's upgrade schemes and none of us have the crystal ball inside either one. UA's upgrade scheme and CO's both have advantages and disadvantages. Let's not pretend either one is the be all end all of complementary upgrade programs.

The previous poster was correct. As a former revenue management person, I'm 99.9% sure that R is NESTED within F. That means, if an F seat is sold, both F and R are decremented (until R becomes zero).

There is a systemic problem this week...my Sunday flight has only one upgrade, which is likely a mileage upgrade..no EUA.

So I checked other flights, looking at Saturday...

1) CO1195 booked to 3, capacity 20, no upgrades

2) CO1293 booked to 6, capacity 16, no upgrades

3) CO1170 booked to 7, capacity 20, no upgrades

4) CO1136 booked to 9, capacity 16, two (mileage?) upgrades

Looking at Friday (tomorrow)...seems to be a more normal EUA pattern. Is this deliberate or a system malfunction?

CO1719 Saturday, booked 0. No upgrades.

My theory is that the PDA and regular list isn't properly displaying upgrades that go into PN, RN, etc.

I had two RN upgrades process in the last week but never showed up on the list. Last night an upgrade went into R and showed up fine.

Hi Hartmann, as you’ve mentioned we recently made some change to align our fare classes. This change impacted the system that automatically processes upgrades in advance (EUA). This meant that not as many upgrades were being processed in advance and instead were being handled at the gate. There was an emergency fix put in place for this early yesterday, so things should be back to normal. If anything appears differently, please let me know.
