You know the scenario by now. Nearly always fly PMUA, but taking a trip on PMCO metal down to FLL this week. There has been plenty of "R" and "RN" inventory through the numerous windows when EUA is supposed to magically sweep valued customers out of their 31" torture chambers and into leather saddled bliss, but no joy for moi thus far. How am I to know whether EUA is legitimately running but not deeming this lowly Platinum/1K worthy of the big chair? Whether some nuance in the reservation has unknowingly removed me from competition? Whether "R" and "RN" availability really only mean upgrades are available if you offer up your oldest child in sacrifice? Really not much you can do. You could bug UA Insider, but are we really supposed to do that with every routine EUA-eligible flight? After all, this "opaqueness" you describe is exactly how the system is designed to work -- the black box does what it wants, when it wants, and you get an upgrade if you get an upgrade. Maybe they could dedicate an intern over at UA to query EUA issues for us until they decide to build some sort of better visibility. ;)

If this is a preview of one of the "changes we'll like" after systems integration in March, I'm not looking forward to the upgrade opaqueness of the new United. I never realized the value of "XF" "NF" and "Upgrade: Pending/Waitlisted/Confirmed" until flying blind on PMCO this week.

Wait until you experience the fun I did where I was told by two separate agents that I was on the upgrade list when in fact I was never added. Being lied to is not a good way to treat your customers. I contacted CS and they told me to go pound sand.
Are you talking about EUA eligibility or the airport upgrade list? If it's the latter, the airport upgrade list is viewable via PDA. Because CO's systems can be so flaky, my SOP is not to move from my position until I verify that I've been added. Note this is only for CO flights, as UA provides a DM card as a receipt, making this validation step not necessary. |
Have a domestic flight on Monday that has been sitting at F3R2 for over 48 hours.
