First they start selling ELR seats out from under Elites before OLCI, now they're bundling added benefits to 'purchased' ELR seats while leaving Elites to stew?

Sounds to me like CO is tinkering with a VX-like enhanced coach product - so how long until Elites lose free access to ELR seats? Ya think our new Dear Leader wouldn't do that without batting an eye?

Based on all the goings on at CO/UA, here's what's going to happen.

EUA to F will be eliminated.

E+ will consist of seats with some additional legroom (less than E+ on UA on most planes, more like E+ on UA's PS service). TV will be included for free in E+ seats.

Elites WILL NOT have free access to E+.

Anyone will be able to reserve E+ plus in advance by buying Y fares; elites will also get instant access with B or M fares.

Elites not on Y,B or M fares will be eligible for EUA from E- to E+.

It won't be funny when UA works the same way.

I should hope not!

My idea:
  • EUA remains for all elites.
  • Gold and higher can access E+ for free anytime, Silver from OLCI. (There will be way too many elites. Perhaps that could also be for specific, elite-heavy routes instead, and all other routes, all elites can access E+ for free.)
  • Before OLCI, Silvers can book E+ for a discount of what kettles can book it for.
  • What's currently ELRs are regular E-, and can be accessed for free by all elites.
  • Elites in E- will be notified before kettles about seats that open up in E+ after elites are EUAed.
  • Current Y/B/M rules remain in effect.
  • E+ will have increased legroom, free DTV, free snack (similar to B6,) and more padded seat.
  • E- will be leather seats!

I highly doubt they will install physically different seats across the cabin.

I've been fortunate to be upgraded to first on every trip this year except this one...and so I'm wondering if this is only for those who paid for the seat...or includes gold/platinum who were able to pick the exit row at ticketing? Anyone have any suggestions where I can find this out? I used the search option to find it on this forum and nothing came up.

It's not out of the goodness of their own heart.... The vast majority of people who've paid for premium exit row seating have disputed the charge with their credit card company. This is a way for Continental to prove you were actually in the seat.

There is no goodwill.

Is there some data out there to back this up, or is it merely anecdotal? I'm sure CO can show the charge was made on line to back up the charge.

Well it's still my hope. And I forgot to add that I want E+ to be at the expense of E-, not F!

(Bolding mine)

What would that do? That would just show the charge was made, which they know anyways because the person is disputing it!

Where does that statement come from? You're saying the majority of people are upgrading to premium seating and then disputing the charge for that premium seating with their CC company? What is the justification for such chargebacks?

It makes sense to include free DirectTV for any revenue purchaser of an extra legroom seat.

CO really ought to make DirectTV free to any elite who winds up in economy as well by accepting a simple swipe of a OnePass or MileagePlus elite card.

That is inconsistent with the new model for the carrier post merger. Now it is important to nickel and dime every passenger. Pay toilets are coming.

I'd hope that it doesn't go for free in E+, unless one is an elite or pays for E+. I see many times on UA that seats up front remain empty (on non-elite heavy routes) and people that are last to check-in are thrown into E+. Those pax shouldn't get a bone for not checking in early.

I agree. Although, for pax who are late, they shouldn't get E+ at all. Perhaps take people (how exactly they decide I don't know*) from E- and "upgrade" them to E+, and put the latecomers in E-.

*Perhaps based off elite level, fare class, when they checked in...

This is hilarious. The vast majority - really? Do you have any data at all to back that up?

They probably would if not for the arrangement with DTV. It would cost a considerable amount of money to provide free TV for all elites.

Of course some might say it was a poor decision to enter into that kind of arrangement in the first place.
