most FT'ers I meet call me Willie, I don't mind a bit.

It is hard for me to remember a real name when I've memorized their handle to their face when the introduction occurs.

I'm very poor with names, perhaps I should bring a notepad and write everyone's names down as I do when I meet a client for the first time. @:-)

I find I record phone numbers by handles until I get to know them really well, then they get altered over to real names. As a do organiser, I do try to learn and remember first names though, as I just think it's bad form at a do I'm organising not to know people's first names - particularly since I'll be asked through an evening who such and such is.

I guess I have to wait until my first DO to see what it's like. I am guessing that it will sound very strange.

If I'm called by my handle in Scotland everybody runs into a doorway.

About half the people at work call me Jeffie... the others use things that would make "Canarsie-isms" pale in comparison

I've only managed to make it to a single DO so far, but that is changing rapidly. Some people are obviously 'John and Mary' while others are more suited to their FT monikers.

Rather than a lot of postings, I tend to hang out on LiveChat. It's more of a 'real' first name basis there.

So, back to the topic at hand... it's not at all weird for me, but addressing, or introducing someone as 'AAEXPlatRoadWarrior' (my apologies if such a handle exists, nothing personal) might seem a little strange, indeed.

I do believe we'll put you to the test in London, after dinner and post-dinner beverages, of course

Canarsie, you're implying we have names or lives outside FT. Don't jump to conclusions.

It seems normal to me. It's sort of like nicknames you have with a particular group of friends. In truth, I can barely connect one name to a face, much less two.

In fact there are people I've met many times that I still think of by their FT names and have to work hard to translate to the real world.

Drives Mr. lili nuts when he meets them with their real names, and I refer to them by FT handles.

Instead, I insist that I please be addressed by my given first name, as I believe should be done once people meet in person. Sometimes I have to remind people several times to please do so.
We have met, I would recognize you on the street, but have absolutely no idea what you "real" name is. It might start with a B. Or not.

My California native son, xavier9, who thinks Brooklyn might be some place on the moon and speaks no French, thought Carnarsie was French and still refers to you as something like Carh-nah-see-eh with the accent on the last syllable.

People have enough trouble pronouncing my handle, they rarely even try.
