Classes and an exam to prepare for means that I'll be missing yet another DO. :( Btw, Newton Circus is closed for renovations again, so might want to factor that into your plans. Most (about three-quarters) of the stalls have moved to a temporary location nearby, but from what I've heard, business has been really bad, so of those stalls that have moved, half operate irregularly.

Mike, I'd like to be counted as in on Lau Pa Sat and
a ride-share from the Conrad to the No Signboard.

I'm considering an all-nighter on the 14th, to avoid
having to get a hotel for a few hours (have to leave on
the 15th rather than the 16th owing to new obligations).
Would anyone be interested in joining me on a wee-hour
crawl after dinner? And does anyone know when the
check-in counters and SATS lounges open?

UA 891 NRT SIN 1715 2350
0115
UA 896 SIN ORD 0645 1140
UA 536 ORD BOS 1355 1723

I know these look mighty direct, but on the 11th I took
pity on Carol and won't make her get up to drive me to
the airport at 4 in the morning (cost: 1800 miles; not
getting kicked in the warmed nuts: priceless), and on
the 15th, I just have too much to do (looking back on
this I am amazed that I passed up on the SFO connection
just to get another 3 or 4 measly hours of practice time).

violist due to an obligation the following week in YVR and trying to preserve my PTO, I am leaving SIN on Sunday also so an all nighter might be in my plan on the 14th.

mjm Dec 5, 2005 7:07 pm

StarG,

That looks bad, but we will hope for the best. Good luck.

violist, Kiwi Flyer, and kluau88,

Yeah MJM, thanks for organizing this! ^

ksteppe Dec 7, 2005 4:12 am

Geylang is a long run from Bugis. But I'll be there somehow. Sign me up for my first SIN RUN ;)

gvdIAD Dec 9, 2005 5:13 pm

After coming across this thread during one of my (too) infrequent visits to FlyerTalk, I became intrigued. I just made 1K on UAL for the first time (not bad considering only 6K miles was business travel paid for by someone other than me), and SIN Run 2006 seems like an excellent way to frontload 20K miles. The fare's reasonable on a per mile basis (though not as cheap as my February trip to Stockholm unless you assess a penalty for the absence of daylight in Sweden in February!), so with some encouragement from Mike (thanks mjm), I'm taking the plunge and doing my first ever mileage run. (Making my first FlyerTalk post, too; wonder what's next?) I'll be arriving on 12 Jan, staying at the Conrad, departing 16 Jan. Please add me to the confirmed attendees of dinner Saturday night and the Sunday night safari. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade at least the trans-Pacific portions of the itinerary once those precious SWU's land in my upgrade box come January. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

dedehans Dec 9, 2005 5:24 pm

Mike...I also thank you for organizing this event.....and I will meet you at the Conrad (right behind the RC) at 1830 on Sat night and share a cab to the FT dinner...

Welcome to FlyerTalk! Many of us will be arriving on the 12th or 13th and departing on the 16th. If you want your SWU's early, to lock in (or waitlist) upgrades now, you can ask for 4 of them right now; there's a link on the 1K page. I'm also staying at the Conrad.

I can tell you that what's next is more flying, meeting interesting people all over the world, eating and drinking with those people, and even more flying. Really, there's no downside. :)

mjm Dec 9, 2005 11:48 pm

ksteppe and gvdIAD,

Welcome aboard. I have added your names and details to the Itins., dinner, etc. pages.

dedehans,

Roger that. :)

And just a brief word of thanks back at everyone who (past and present) comes out and makes this a great start to the year. You guys are world's easiest group to have dinner with thousands of miles from home ^

Mike

ksteppe Dec 10, 2005 3:41 am

this will be my first DO even though I've been on the site for a bit. and I don't even have to go to Changi to get there! Anyone looking for further exploration of SIN feel free to drop me a line.

seanthepilot Dec 10, 2005 3:43 am

Put me down for the Sunday night Safari.

PS.... pages and pages ago a few of us talked about a SIN-DOO Tokyo after tour.

Any more thoughts on this mjm? Any more intrest from the masses? I'm getting ready to book my flights and the NRT option looks great. Jan 16-18?

flamboyant 1 Dec 10, 2005 5:58 am

Unfortunately I will not come because I will not fly anytime soon. Too many problems with my home airline lately.

I wish you lots of fun. Best wishes for christmas and the New Year to all my friends!!!

guttorm Dec 10, 2005 11:36 am

Sign me up for late-night dinner on Friday and the main event on Saturday. I'm doing another CRWSTAR just for the sake of attending this SIN-DO; I must be crazy, but at least I'm in good company here. Looking forward to meeting all you people from the last mini SIN Do and Bali DO '05 again.

guttorm -- it will be good to see you again! SF is here & says the same!

rcs85551 Dec 11, 2005 3:56 pm

Unfortunately, I do have to give skiing lessons that weekend and I cannot weasel my way out of this - so I will not be able to come to the 2006 do.

I am really sad about this, especially because I had such a great time last year. Hope I can make it in 2007!

mjm Dec 11, 2005 6:12 pm

Page updates done as of 12/12.

Keep the information coming.......

sean,

Got you down for the safari. As for the Tokyo post-SIN Do thing, Heck yes!
I am very ready to feast and drink etc. with anyone that stops in. I know you will be here, I am pretty sure we have tom911, and magic111 in too. Anybody else?

guttorm,

Welcome aboard. See you in SIN.

rcs85551,

Sorry to hear you will not be there, but will hold a spot for you at the table next year. :)

I'll be at the Mercure Ginza the nights of the 16th and 17th. I think Magic111 might be heading home on the Monday, though. Hopefully he'll be along to confirm. I don't fly home until 7pm on the 18th.

Yes, I will be going home on the 16th. Just changing airlines at NRT.

Spiff Dec 12, 2005 4:00 pm

Confirmed Confirmed Confirmed

(Anyone else remember this near-headline? ;) Hint: this is my third visit to SIN )

I'm in for all meals, including the Fri night snack. I arrive just past midnight on the 14th.

I might or might not do the Safari. It's a fun event but I've already done it and might be willing to try something else.

Is anyone else interested in seeing a tailor during our visit to SIN? I would like to get a few suits. :)

I've got a reservation for Fri night at the Conrad, but since homelessness seems to be en vogue for that evening, I might be willing to skip it and stay out all night. I know, shocking. :D

I would be surprised if there are any suits to be found in Singapore that come in Blue, white, and red with a number on the back. And what would your exclusive tailor G. Cosby have to say to you when he found out that you were looking to upstage him in the Orient? :p

mjm Dec 12, 2005 7:20 pm

Spiffmeister,

Welcome aboard again.! ^

As for tailors, I am visiting mine on Saturday morning and can take annybody along that wants a great suit, shirt, skirt, etc. I have been using Jack's Custom Tailors for years now and they have amazing material, good workmanship and the prices vary depending on the contours of the moon.

Let me know where to contact you as of Saturday mornig at 10am and I will drop a dime. Alternatively we can arrange to meet in the Grand Hyatt Lobby at 10am as that is 100 yards away from the tailor. (Near Orchard and Scotts, and not a million miles from the Sheraton either.)

P.S. to Spiff, we can just finish our last beer and head over together. :)

I think I can find my way over to the Grand Hyatt. I believe the Marriott is pretty close by, is it not?

Thanks so much! ^
