Fantastic news about Sean!!! ^ Not so fantastic news that you won't be joining us...you'll be missed...but that's a pretty great reason for not being there. Hmmm, now to figure out how to get even more creative on my routing home...

Sorry to hijack the thread off topic but Jerrie wishes to inquire as to the time for the show on the 21st?

She feels it is worth it to pay the $100 to change an award ticket to get to HKG a few day earlier on the 21st.

seanthepilot Jul 16, 2005 2:01 am

In fact a stopover in HKG would allow many to qualify for the 6 day minimum :D

I'm still going to do NRT after the doo, but a show in HKG sounds doo-able too :P

mjm Jul 16, 2005 2:09 am

EdisonCarter,

Welcome aboard. I have added your name to the website and all the relevant activities pages. Looking forward to meeting another Californian. :)

Sean,

Way to Go!!! We will miss you but it appears for a very good reason. Congratulations and break a leg. ^ :)

seanthepilot gets the creativity award for securing good seats early at a decent price and beating UA at their own 6 day game. If any of you do go to the show in Hong Kong be sure to post pictures. And as he said, Tokyo after the weekend is a go, go, go.

See you,

Mike

Just a thought....

I signed up for the Ameniti program, seeing as the program offers a free companion ticket if Biz or F is booked, anyone interested in flying out of ORD on the companion ticket? (the companion ticket does NOT earn miles)

I'm sure we could work something out. Just PM me if interested.

das Jul 16, 2005 9:14 pm

Count me in... No excuse for me not to show up given I'll be in SYD and SIN is so close!

rcs85551 Jul 17, 2005 3:39 am

This year's event was fabulous. I will sure make every effort to be there again in 2006, too!

GK Jul 17, 2005 3:44 am

Not hijacking this thread honest... but..

I have had a swamp of PMs and emails about Sean's show.. so here is the info. it is a high budget community theatre production, their annual pantomime.. look up on google if you've never heard of this traditional english event.. there is no 'miming' in it btw.

This year it is Sleeping Beauty, last year he was Tweedledummer in Alice in Wonderland. There is a cast of 50, lots of kids in the chorus, songs, dancing and bawdy jokes, the main male lead is traditionally played by a woman, and the panto dame is always a large man in drag.. now if that doesn't appeal ;)

Performance dates are tentatively: jan 11, 12, 13, 14 at 7.30pm, jan 14, 15, 21 at 2,30pm and jan 18, 19, 20 and 21 at 7.30pm. Hope this fits in with SIN-run schedule.

More info will be up online after the rehearsals start in sept http://www.hongkongplayers.com

mjm Jul 18, 2005 12:52 am

das,

I have your name on the website now so we will look forward to seeing you at dinner, and....? Send travel details when you have them and I will load them up also. Catch you soon in SIN. :)

rcs85551,

Do hope you can make it. I have added your name to the "maybe" list for the moment and shall await info on your status upgrade.

Graeme,

Post the info to this thread when it is out and I will add a small advert to the site so everybody flying trans-pac can consider stopping in to see history being made. ;)

Congratulations to :-: Sean :-: !

I am eagerly looking now for a ticket to HKG with a stop-over at SIN ;). Paging the Magical duo.....

indo79 Jul 18, 2005 12:18 pm

Put me down as a maybe for now. I just started a new position and do not know how my new manager works.....yet :D

mjm Jul 18, 2005 6:40 pm

HAve very happily added two more to the "maybe" list.

Hoping for status upgrades for belle3388 and indo79.

More flight details have gone up for a couple of attendees. Anyone else that wants theirs up on the website, just drop a note with details.

You never know who you will run into on the way......:)

sf4dfish Jul 31, 2005 3:30 pm

Add me in! I just purchased a ticket for arrival into SIN on Friday January 13 on UA891. I will be originating from SFO on UA837, departing on Thursday January 12. Ticketed and UPGRADED with seat 15A all the way.

kluau88 Jul 31, 2005 6:03 pm

Just for kicks...Jan 12-16 SFO-SIN via HKG/NRT $1055 / Q-fares.

Kiwi Flyer Jul 31, 2005 6:12 pm

Wow over 50 names already. How many do we need to take over the restaurant? ;)

Yes, I've been watching this closely too. RNO-SFO-SIN is $1138, fare=Q. I'm thinking fondly of last January's trip, which only cost $846 from RNO. This fare was available for a 2 week window only, a year ago. Will we see it again? Since NC availability still showing I9, I will continue to procrastinate. Fortunately I note both UA891 & 895 are now B747. :)

If you make your stay in SIN a few days longer, say the 19th, then the price out of SFO will drop to $904.80/V-fare.

19103_aa Aug 1, 2005 12:47 am

hmmm...tempting.
I am a strong maybe. I have made inquiries to various award travel desks and am getting a lot of nos. :( I will watch for the fares to go down on UA so I can use up some voucher $$. Upgrades? that's another problem :)

mjm Aug 1, 2005 12:49 am

sf4dfish,

I have your details added to the page now. Welcome aboard!

See you all in SIN,

Mike

UA SWUs expire at the end of January. In January of 2005, folks were being generous in Coupon Connection. It's something for you to keep in mind, even though it means you'd only be able to request upgrades close to travel dates.

IIRC that fare was actually an error, and it was only available for a few days. Although long enough for several of us to swoop in and ticket :)

Ex-ORD on UA with anything less than a 6+ is still pricing at $1300+ on a Q fare

Yep it was a mistake. I know it's not the mistake people think of but the terms were wrong. The fare rules were loaded wrong. 6 day fare rules/pricing was attached to the <6 day fares.

My itinerary/flight schedule on the SIN DO Website is totally wrong, as are many others I guess, strange dates and not everyone is flying UA ;)!

I have not yet booked a hotel, but will likely stay at The Oriental Singapore.

My flights so far scheduled are:

JAN 10 LH 778 FRA-BKK
JAN 13 SQ 67 BKK-SIN
JAN 15 SQ 26 (preferred) (or SQ 326 SIN-FRA)

Kiwi Flyer Aug 1, 2005 3:34 pm

FB - I may join you BKK-SIN (not sure yet).

flamboyant 1 Aug 1, 2005 3:34 pm

If anyone is in BKK before the SIN DO, there I will be at The Oriental, the real and original Oriental Hotel. :)

Well, an interesting thought to be on SQ67 as well. :-: Closer to the dates I most probably will know for sure. And yes, to meet in Bangkok it will be fun as well. :D

mjm Aug 1, 2005 6:56 pm

flamboyant1,

Your details as posted here are now reflected on the website. There was and is no (save for typos or recent airline flight time adjustments) incorrect itinerary/flight info displayed. Granted, if one were to highlight the red area of a participant's itinerary/flight detail area they would see the place holder text which is there in the same font color as the background color and is therefore not "on" the website per se. This formatting method allows me to update the site with significantly greater rapidity at work when the details come out in the thread. Please advise when you know one way or the other if in fact you will be on the SQ 326 so I can ensure accuracy on the site. For the moment I will leave it as SQ 26 as that is your preferred flight.

All the best,

Mike

I don't know much about the best plans. I probably have the wackiest plan.
(SQ)CMB-SIN-BKK-(TG)PEK-(OZ)ICN-(SQ)SFO-(UA)LAX-SFO-(SQ)HKG-SIN(on the 14th)-CMB-SIN(on the 15th)-(UA)HKG-(SQ)SFO as part of an ad hoc RTW VNO-VNO with only one 24 hour stop. From the first SFO to the last SFO (over 21,000 miles), I have no hotel stops.

I'll earn 20 PPS sectors and untold FF miles split strategically among UA M+, LH M&M, and BD DC. It's all in C and F except VNO-CPH-FRA-CAI in Y (most likely to be upgraded to C) and the total cost is less than US$4000. :)

So, please count me in. If it's as good as the 2004 SIN-DO, it will be worth it. (I missed 2005.)

flamboyant 1 Aug 2, 2005 7:55 am

Thanks Mike,

It was the placeholder (UA segments) that is strange to me. Now I understand, many thanks, leave it as SQ 26,

Sebastian

Sorry I got my dates mixed up. I may be coming from BKK on 14th, unlikely to be the 13th.

Even if you are on 14th Jan, it's very intriguing to join you if you do the same like this past weekend. :) I noticed today, again, SQ64 with SpaceBeds.

serfty Aug 16, 2005 7:27 pm

mrs serfty will be coming along as well ^ ... same flights as posted. (QF71 now 15:30 - 20:35) Hotels a mix of Novotel, Hilton, Conrad.

mjm Aug 16, 2005 10:07 pm

serfty,

Noted and the pages are now amended. Will look forward to seeing both of you there. :)

Please add me to the maybe list. Assuming I can get a client to foot part of the bill I shall try to be there.

Punki Aug 23, 2005 3:32 am

We are still trying to find a decently priced flight. The six day stay is a pain. I like SIN, but not six days worth at a shot.

Punki, I know you and Hunki prefer quick trips, but what you have here is a great opportunity for a 2½-3 day side trip somewhere. Due to some quite heavy competition, prices ex SIN are surprisingly low.

Punki Aug 23, 2005 9:50 am

A side trip would be nice, but UA prices are still pretty high so we will wait and see if they drop a bit.
