Still waiting for a SIN sale, preferrably one that allows a stopover in HKG. :)
|
We have just now been able to change our return to add a four day stopover in HKG.
This of course presumes that by January, Asiana and its pilots have straightened out their little squabble that has now involved the government. Details will be sent to Mike under separate cover as soon as we decide when and how to get to HKG from SIN (since all the nonstops are *A, we have lots of choices). |
Ms. prncess674,
You are now on the maybe list. Hope to see you in SIN again. All, Fares for less than 6 days should come out eventually. And for those of you needing a plan for a side trip, HKG is a great one as is Tokyo. ;) I know a guy who will be here after SIN Run '06 and who is usually quite keen on a bite to eat and a few bevvies afterwards. :) Mike |

Mike UA RNO-SFO-SIN Jan.12-16 $1158 Q fare ....................... Jan.12-18 $1038 V fare. Of course last year I paid only $846 for this. (OK, this was a special fare.) However I've noticed fares to ALL UA destinations that I fly to have increased in price $100 or so in the last year. |

Count me in on SIN
I spend a lot of time in Singapore doing speaking and training and have just found about the meeting of the FT SINners. I will plan on being there for the MLK weekend and look forward to meeting you!

The feast in the Southeast is on again. It is called the SIN Run 2006 and this year we are four years old and still going strong. Info on times places and events scheduled so far can be checked out on the website for this event at: http://home.inter.net/mjm/sinrun06.html This thread will also always be a good place to find out the latest on who is signed up (which will also be updated regularly on the website), what events are being suggested, special deals on hotels etc, etc. Last year’s group was full of new faces who I am hoping and betting will be repeat attendees. This year it seems we already have a large number of first timers again. The event has continued to be a terrific mix of returning SINners and fresh faces. With more than 30 people already signed up and many of those ticketed, we may be headed towards a record turnout. Who knows, we may have taken over the whole restaurant when they start bringing out the platters of Pepper Crabs, Chili Crabs, and all the wonderful assorted munchies that Singapore has to offer. You are officially invited to come on down and join in the fun on the equator. Mike |
FunnyScott - if you're based in SIN you may want to check out the ultimate thread about SIN do which lists the local dos, dinners and drinks.

I should be returning to asia after holidays in Jackson Hole w nephews. I would like to attend. Fairly new to all this and would like to get out and met up with FTers. . Wonder if there would be any folks interested in going out on a run with the local Hash House Harriers while there?
|
Well, I just officially blocked those days on our work scheduling calendar (which is further than I've made it the last couple of years) so for all intensive purposes I'm in.
Now I just need to figure out if I'm doing *A or OW - and on what kind of ticket. Decisions decisions! |

Hash House Harrier?
What is a "Hash House Harrier?"
|
The "Hash rally run" I joined in Hongkong was a 12 kilometer run up and down on the back of Victoria peak, then up again, and back down to Central, where we started.
I would call that "intensive jogging / running". |

I would call that "intensive jogging / running". Might be interested as well. Like others, it would be a good exercise motivator for December/January...not to mention a way to get the legs moving after/before the long flights. |
I'm not sure my liver can take any future Hash runs.
(Hashers are self-described as "drinkers with a running problem". I could barely walk when I left my last Dallas Hash.) |

Alright, I am back in the saddle and happy to announce that the page is updated to show the very welcome additions of two new faces and Texas' first daughter.
Welcome aboard to techgirl, FunnyScott, and skifrog! See you in SIN :) Mike |
HHH (hash house harriers) Kampong Hashers run (& walk) on Sat 5:30, there are also Friday & Sunday runs. Hashs were a mostly expat phenomenon, an old tradition in asia. Good way to get a fix on whats what in new citys, meet some locals, get a bit of exercise & drink a bunch of beer. Possibly pick up a neat Tshirt. Chance to get out of the city. Too far off to get any detailed info on run. Will post it once I get details.

re Conrad Hilton Singapore
Last January I stayed at the Conrad, as did many others. I paid 180 SGD one night and 220 SGD the next. A great hotel, and the meeting place for Saturday dinner. :) So I checked prices on the Hilton web site today. Shock! Horror! 430 SGD & 480 SGD a night! Double! Am I missing something here? Did I just get a great deal last year?
Looks like I'm going to have to seek more modest accomodation - that means no yellow duck for my bath. |
 Glad I already booked (albeit at higher rate than the great special I got last year).

Looks like I'm going to have to seek more modest accomodation - that means no yellow duck for my bath. A month ago I went to book a basic room at the Conrad for the prior Thursday night and could not get one so I'm staying at the Novotel Clark Quay that evening. I have gone forward a month at a time until May and can't find a Saturday night rate less than SG$430, so I guess a significant change in philosophy has occurred there. Weekdays it seems to be SG$480! Next week, you can get a Saturday night room for SG$243 and in December a Saturday can be had for SG$234, so prices may come down clser in. |
There's a IEEE conference from 10-13/Jan. Seems quite a major event so that may be a reason why some of the rooms are expensive. http://www.ieeecet.org/
|
The Hilton and Conrad both seem to have increased their prices recently. I've spent the last 3 nights at the Conrad and got exec level rooms for SGD250 booked 4 moths ago. However, looked at the rates for Wednesday night and the cheapest rate is SGD330 and exec is SGD430 !. The cheapest Hilton room is SGD350 and all the windows are covered with the outside building work going on so if anything you'd think it would be cheaper.
The Conrad said they are regularly very busy these days. I haven't had a suite for the last 3 visits as they were sold out. Yes, I did check. ;) |

I guess that explains why loads look quite high already for January 12 to HKG and then to SIN.

Oops.. scratch that - I just checked.. Fashion Week is Jan 17-20 in HK.
|
Just to confirm that those wanting to stopover and see Sean in 'Sleeping Beauty' should aim to be in Hong Kong (in town for 7.30pm start) on either Thurs 12 or Fri 13, there won't be any shows in the days right after the do, but will be on the following Thurs/Fri/Sat.
Ticket orders through me as on-line not available for all shows held in Hk Gov't Theatres. Will post prices when know, but around the HK$200 mark. |
I'm hoping for more reasonable fares to show up, but so far its pricing high that weekend. Hasn't it been awhile since fares with less than 6 day minimum have been offered though? :)
