HHH (hash house harriers) Kampong Hashers run (& walk) on Sat 5:30, there are also Friday & Sunday runs. Hashs were a mostly expat phenomenon, an old tradition in asia. Good way to get a fix on whats what in new citys, meet some locals, get a bit of exercise & drink a bunch of beer. Possibly pick up a neat Tshirt. Chance to get out of the city. Too far off to get any detailed info on run. Will post it once I get details.

re Conrad Hilton Singapore
Last January I stayed at the Conrad, as did many others. I paid 180 SGD one night and 220 SGD the next. A great hotel, and the meeting place for Saturday dinner.
So I checked prices on the Hilton web site today. Shock! Horror! 430 SGD & 480 SGD a night! Double! Am I missing something here? Did I just get a great deal last year?
Looks like I'm going to have to seek more modest accomodation - that means no yellow duck for my bath.

A month ago I went to book a basic room at the Conrad for the prior Thursday night and could not get one so I'm staying at the Novotel Clark Quay that evening.
I have gone forward a month at a time until May and can't find a Saturday night rate less than SG$430, so I guess a significant change in philosophy has occurred there. Weekdays it seems to be SG$480!
Next week, you can get a Saturday night room for SG$243 and in December a Saturday can be had for SG$234, so prices may come down clser in.

There's a IEEE conference from 10-13/Jan. Seems quite a major event so that may be a reason why some of the rooms are expensive. http://www.ieeecet.org/

The Hilton and Conrad both seem to have increased their prices recently. I've spent the last 3 nights at the Conrad and got exec level rooms for SGD250 booked 4 moths ago. However, looked at the rates for Wednesday night and the cheapest rate is SGD330 and exec is SGD430 !. The cheapest Hilton room is SGD350 and all the windows are covered with the outside building work going on so if anything you'd think it would be cheaper.
The Conrad said they are regularly very busy these days. I haven't had a suite for the last 3 visits as they were sold out. Yes, I did check.
