Anyway, just a quick question for all of you DFW folks. We are still trying to figure out where exactly we want to move to in the metroplex. Right now we are between Frisco and Castle Hills. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We are heading down again this weekend to look some more. glad to hear you're going to be a DFWer soon! good luck with the house hunt |

I've already told you (many times) my position on this... Frisco is like living in Oklahoma relative to what is going on in the metroplex. Heck, living in Coppell sometimes feels like Oklahoma and I'm only five minutes from the airport! Given all things, I'd be inclined to say Castle Hills - closer to the airport, closer to the tollway, and closer to non-chain restaurants. Both Frisco and Castle Hills are being built up so rapidly that you should be able to find something you like in either place.

Tijuana Grill sounds like our August gathering. I'll take that one, and post some dates on it this weekend. |
Tijuana Grill sounds like a great idea since it is walking distance from work and home for me. :) Is it possible to do Abacus during Restaurant Week to get a lower price or will they not even do groups then? At any rate I might be up for that too since it is in my neighborhood and I really enjoyed it last time. I hated that I missed Ponder but had a death in the family and had my Dad here. Since I can't stand baseball I will skip July but hope to see you guys in August. I would like to suggest Cafe San Miguel on Henderson for a future meeting. It is really good, more Mex-Mex than Tex-Mex, and I like the Pomeritas too. If anyone would like to come down and try it out with me send me a message. I go there quite often these days.

Second opinion on Irving/Las Colinas area

I'm only minutes from Edelweiss, so I can help with this event - if I am in town. I have not made any events yet so this one would be a good start. |

As far as the event I'm talking about, three years ago we did the nine-course dinner at the chef's table - it was about $85 a person without wine and $125 with. I've had several requests (mostly from out-of-town folks) to repeat that event so I'm looking to plan that for some time in the fall. I understand that this falls outside the price range for a monthly event for some folks so when we do it, I'm going to plan it "outside" our monthly calendar so that no one feels like they need to skip a month because the nine-course deal isn't really their speed. (FWIW, last time we did the chefs table in 2003, we had a waiting list and filled all 12 seats at the table - only four of the twelve attendees were locals...) That said, I wouldn't rule out Abacus sometime just for a normal monthly get together either where folks can order off the standard menu... but I am planning to do the chef's table dinner again as a special event. |

The last Abacus dinner I was unemployed and low-carbing, and didn't want to spend that kind of cash on a meal that would bust my diet. Both those problems are solved now, so I'm definitely interested, pending the scheduling.

I'm realistically looking at October or November for the Abacus dinner. Schedule is too crazy between now and September to even contemplate planning something (beyond the Cats for July) before then!

If we go for a weekend, may I suggest a Sunday for brunch... they have bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, and sangria. (Selfishness has me inclined to suggest August 19 since its the only Sunday day I have free the entire month.) If we go for a weeknight, that is always cool too. Pitchers of mojitos. Mmmmmm.... |
