I have a wireless laptop that can burn CDs or DVDs. It's my "desktop laptop". But I was planning to bring my other laptop with external wireless card (which can't burn anything) cuz it's about half the size of my "desktop laptop", and has more stuff on it that I use. It's also my work PC, so if I lost or damaged it I suppose work would replace it instead of moi.

How many FlyerTalk members are bringing digital cameras?

The reason why I ask is because I am considering this for an idea: what if I brought some blank compact discs (one for each person attending) to be burned with the compilation of everybody’s photographs on one disc to take home as a souvenir?

What do you think of this suggestion?

As usual, Canarsie has another good idea. I can bring along my featherwight laptop's mini docking station without a problem, but I will not carry it for the rest of my trip for reasons of convenience and also the stiff excess baggage charges on AlpiEagles.

Therefore, if there is anybody on the trip who will volunteer to take this 4-5 pound piece back to New York or South Florida where we can meet after the 29th and I can pick it up, I will consider bringing it.

I could take it to SC for you if that's any help?

Thanks for being willing, but this would not be of much help, I'm not planning to be near Columbia until mid-January at the earliest and I will probably need this thing shortly after I get back at the end of this month.
However, if you don't mind packing it nice and securely in a Fedex or UPS box and sending it down, I think that would be OK. The problem lies in shipping something like that from Italy to the States, but last I heard, South Carolina was still in the US.

I am bringing my PowerBook, which is both USB and CD-R burner equipped. I also have Photoshop, and am intending to bring my Nikon D2H camera.

I'd be happy to help out if I can.

It is mahvelous, darling. I am bringing a digital camera, but lack all that technical knowledge to put photos on CDs. Brilliant idea @:-)

OK first off I am not the most tech-savvy but I thought that each camera has its own software for downloading its pictures to a computer.

Is there a generic software for doing this or will each person have to bring their downloading software with them?

Since I must leave early am on the 21st I beg someone to please send me a copy of the CD as I will be gone before the Great Meet ends :( I do really want to have the photo memories as I think we are all going to have an extraordinary experience.

Yeah, I could Fedex it for you. I'll hit SC next on Dec 16. How does that fit with your schedule?

First, upon arrival at HotelAiMori if you cannot wait until you get to your room, there are 2 beautiful bathrooms at the far end of the lobby on your left. These are unisex.
Prada the Women's store, which is different from the Men's store (although they are side by side, only the Women's store has a toilet). Enter the store and ask to see some items..e.g. wallet, shoes, etc. Then, excuse yourself, with a knowing look and go down the hallway on the right. The bathroom is on the left. It has a kind of funny lock, so pay attention.. This bathroom is always immaculate.

Gritti Palace Hotel I like this one because it is close to a vaporetto stop. Enter the hotel and, again, with the knowing look, walk past the austere gentleman at the front desk and when you come to the hallway (opposite the bar), take a left. The bathroom is on the right at the end of the hall. BTW, if you need to have your hair done, the Gritti Salon is really really good).

Harry's Bar Walk in, go just past the bar and turn left. Walk upstairs and take a right. Very very clean bathroom with good lighting for freshening make-up.

public restroom (I know, I know, but sometimes it is unavoidable), very clean pay W.C. in San Bartolomeo Square, near the Spagnoli store. This is close to the Rialto and on your way back to the hotel from the San Marco area.

Fiaschetteria Toscana restaurant also, close to the Rialto Bridge
and on the Strada Nove a few minutes from the hotel. Walk in, go past the very vigilant cashier/owner at the desk and take a hard right turn opposite the desk. The bathroom is up the stairs.
Peggy Guggenheim Museum on Dorsidoro. Quite clean for a public facility.
Worst-case scenario: You find yourself in the gardens near the Arsenale, visiting the site of the Bienalle (actually, I think there is an architecure exhibit going on now). The public toilets are near the gift shop. Not great, but acceptable. Have kleenex in your purse for this scenario.
If I think of any others, I'll add to this post. If anyone else has some suggestions, please feel free to comment.

Bump (in case anyone missed this the first time around)

I wondered the same thing. Don't we also need to bring the cable that connects the camera to the computer?

I will be happy to send your copy. I don't know how to make a CD, but I do know how to mail one once somebody smart makes it ;)
