Such sad news.
R.I.P. Cholula. I'm thankful for having been able to get to know you. Always fun. I remember great times in the OMNI and communitybuzz corners of FT.
Meet you again some time. I hope there will be cholula sauce at that place...

Sad news. I miss checking the Delta forum and running into this posts. Some of his interactions with others were my first hint that this was a very special online community.
If heaven is a land flowing with milk and honey, may it now be a land flowing with milk, honey, and Cholula hot sauce.

Very, very, sad news.
A couple hours ago my wife (WifeMpls V2, who has never met Cholula) & I were shopping at our favorite Asian grocery, where I scored a large bottle of Cholula sauce. On the way home I explained to her about the guy named Cholula, who was responsible for the marketing success of Cholula the Sauce.
And then I come home and find this thread.
I first met Cholula at the ELP DO in 2006. Cholula & I are in the back row of JFE's photo 3 heads apart. When he saw that I was viewing FT w/ ads, he tried to pay for my upgrade. On a later ELP DO, we spent time in our room drinking cognac with a blow-up alien doll that WifeMpls V1 & I had brought back from Roswell.
I came home from a number of FT DO's with coupons for free Cholula Sauce. I shared a few with my boss, who eventually would ask if I had any more of those coupons. When I'd let Cholula know that the boss was sauceless, often as not I would receive an envelope stuffed with free Cholula Sauce coupons.
At times like this I'm reminded of my undergrad advisor's favorite rhetorical question: "Have you ever wondered what it will be like (long pause) when the best of us are gone?" We've lost one of the best.
Requiescas in pace, Cholula. You will truly be missed.

Very sad to hear this news. While I never had the pleasure of meeting Dave personally, we had become friends on Facebook over the past several years. Whenever I would post a photo of some steak (or other meat) dish that I had cooked, Dave was often the first one commenting, saying how he'd love to have whatever I was cooking. I will miss his friendship that we developed over the past several years.

I am very sad to hear this news. Dave and I (along with a few others) were moderators of the Travel Safety and Security forum in the mid-2000s which made for interesting work and side conversations. I still remember the day when I received coupons for free hot sauce from him in the mail. He got a good laugh when I told him that the local grocery store thought i was running some sort of scam. May he rest in peace.

Way back, in September 2003, I started a thread called "Unabashed Cholula Spam" (Unabashed Cholula Spam).
Many of us, including both Cholula and myself, expected it to be shut down immediately. After all, it violated several rules -- including spamming and naming an FTer in the thread's title. In fact, it stayed open for two years and the last post was number 5544. (After it closed, Canarsie replaced it with the Delta Forum Lounge Thread, which is now in its third edition. (When one edition has too many posts, it is closed and replaced with another.)
I consider the original to be a tribute to a great sauce and an even greater man.
