|
MrAOK Ok once again i respond late to say i'm coming. My friend patty may join me |
Start thinking about next month...
Tonight was an absolute success - we had a lot of old faces & some new ones. Little G2 was able to join us & it was nice to finally meet her after all these stories we've heard about her from Momma G2.
Time to start thinking about next month! We didn't come to any sort of resolution (at least we weren't at a resolution when Kokonutz & Techgirl led the group to the second bar - Old Ebbitt Grill where gleff & mileageaddict took advantage of the free valet parking & I, like a moron, ended up parking 5 blocks away - at least it was street parking!) So, hopefully they came up with an idea for next month - if not, come up with one here. Probable dates are June 3 or June 10 - I'm not sure I'll be around on the either, but if I am here, I'll try to make it out to wherever we decide. My vote will always go to the one with free parking ;)! G2 tentatively has volunteered her backyard for later in the summer (after the cicadas leave) for a BBQ where she has suggested some nice cold strong martini's. The Key Bridge Marriott is still an option, but I was thinking we could do that for July as I'm not sure I'll be around for June's event at this point, but I know I'll be around for July's (which I'd like to tentatively recommend for July 8, at the Key Bridge Marriott - the first weekend is 4th of July weekend & it's a long weekend so people may be out of town or something). Post your suggestions, please! |
I've posted my photo of the group here.

If Koko was there, then I was by default :D I'm thinking of doing another dinner at the College Park airport towards the end of June. Tentatively, Friday June 25th. Any interest? Of course, you Virginia folks will need your passport ;) |
Nice to meet some new faces last night!
Going forward I'm in favor of ample free parking! But I will report that dropping off my car with the valet at Old Ebbitt Grill, techgirl and I then walked through the restaurant and out the back to the Hotel Washington... :D Saved myself $17 using the Hotel Washington's valet, and there certainly wasn't any street parking to be had when we arrived. Nice idea (was it geo's?)! |
Kokonutz: We'll get you on the redeye to ANC one of these days TechGirl: How many miles did I say it was? Gleff: I need website updates NOW! G2: You have every right to be proud of that digital picture...nice! Alysia: Wooo! I saw you eating chicken! Patty: We need to have a Cuban food get together...yum! Samir: Thank you for getting us organized Everyone else: Nice to meet you, sorry if we didn't chat more, I'll catch up with you next time.undefinedundefined |
Serves me right
Well, I didn't read the latest on FT before I left for the HW last night. I arrived about 7ish and wandered around the outside bar area for 15 minutes, looking like some lost Secret Service agent  wondering where POTUS was.
I finally gave up and left around 7:15 and assumed parking was REALLY bad (what were those weird flags on all the limos on the street outside the back door of the Willard?) So, lesson learned. Read your FT, not just daily, but hourly. |
Count me in!
If you are on for the 94th Aero Squadron in College Park, on Friday June 25th, then I am there! :)

Yes, thanks for putting this together! :)
This was my third social with the group and it was great to see some familiar folks and meet some new "faces behind the names!" There were 2-4 people I knew from before and about a dozen new friends (and yes, Mileage Addict, maybe one day I'll even cook for you guys... provided you don't have a HUGE family! ) Alysia, thanks for posting the pic, and gleff, thanks so much for your priceless advice! :) Even though I bailed at "halftime," the night was fun, and even though I didn't get a chance to really get to know everyone, even those short conversations -- such as my chat with techgirl over our monikers as we were walking out -- were really enjoyable. I hope to see you all again soon! |

I too wondered about those flags. From my quick glimpse and my flags of the world collection, they look like Angola. Nice to meet some other FT'ers and match faces with names. I won't be around for June as I have 3 transcons before 4-July (SFO, YVR, and ANC!!!). |
Agreed... what a FUN night! It was great to meet so many new people. Gary & Steve, thanks for the rides to and fro (respectively)!
I'm back in town on July 7th (a Wednesday) if anyone is up for drinking then. |
Was great seeing everyone last night... has it been a year Jen? I'll put out the suggestion for a DCA FFN i-dine bar crawl so we can get our 10K NW miles all in one shot... anyone interested???
|
I'm in!
I've got 4 others that I've promised to do it with this year, but maybe we can coordinate. Last year, there were a lot of iDine place in Arlington - I think we started at Gaffney's Oyster house, did 2 others in Arlington, & made it out Luna Grill and then finished at Chadwicks in Alexandria.
We were thinking sometime in June. Once you figure out when to do it (preferably a Saturday night, for me) - you should create a new post & not post it under the DC happy hour thread - maybe call it the DC Area FFF4 iDine Bar Crawl or something like that. |
Hi Samir. Saw the photo and you had a great group. Will monitor this thread to find a date I can join in . I'm in Italy first week of June and in CA last weekend but I will try another time.

I am going to be in and out of D.C. on biz for the first few weeks in June and then again in July.
If all works out as it should, count me in. Dan |
We can do a meet in my backyard in August or September. We could get a keg and make martinis, do some dogs and burgers on the grill, etc. People could kick in $10 or $15 bucks and that would be far cheaper than going out. Good thing we didn't have to order off the fancy menu at the Hotel Washington!

Bar Crawl
For those of you who are NW fliers, I talked to thezipper earlier today & we were thinking about doing an iDine Bar Crawl on a Saturday in June - keep checking CommunityBuzz for details - thezipper will post them in a new thread. 5 beers + 1 qualifier = 10K miles - even if you're not a regular NW flier - 60 bucks for the credit card annual fee + 5 beers could equal 20K miles for under 85 bucks!

Perhaps y'all might consider scheduling this in July, as anyone who doesn't already have the NW Visa will need to apply for it, but not before June 1. They'll need to have the card as a qualifying activity...
Or for folks who already have the card, they might consider getting the business Visa with 10k signup bonus. Don't have a business? How about "[FT Handle] & Associates" a sole proprietorship dedicated to inexpensive first class travel? Now, those of us who signed up for the NW CC two years ago (25k signup bonus) for FFF2 and for the NW Business CC last year for FFF3 will need a different qualifying activity! :D Oh, and will need to register a card with NW's iDine program -- I cancelled my card in November in anger when they denied a charge because of a security concern. My argument was they should've called me first. But it turns out they DID leave me a voicemail and I just hadn't noticed. :o Lo siento. Sorry to veer this off course. Original point was perhaps at least push this to the end of June so anyone wanting to participate who needs the card can apply in early June. Of course the qualifying activity can come after the partner activities, but it would certainly seem easiest to get the NW Visa and then use THAT Visa linked to iDine... (And I just can't seem to call it 'Rewards Network' ... dunno .. it'll always be iDine. At least I don't insist on calling them "Transmedia" ... :D) |
July works for me too - as I'm going to be on the 61.00 fare to Iceland on June 26!
GoingAway won't be able to make it on the 26th either - she had listed her "blackout date" as the weekend of July 19 & most saturday's (Friday's are better for her I think). So, the current blackout dates are (for me & GoingAway): June 12th weekend (I may be in NY that weekend) June 26th weekend - Iceland! July 9-12 (All-Good Festival, West Virgina, if anyone's interested) July 19 - GoingAway will be gone away July 4th weekend (just not a good weekend for a bar crawl) Other than that, I'm open, I think. |

Anyway... with ppl out and about on vacations, etc. I'm thinking to move it into the July timeframe. Will start a thread on it tomorrow (wait today!) at work... |
Some random notes...
Howdy, everyone! Just a few random notes...
June 25: Should work for me if that's still in discussion, but I'm also open to other dates. Transmedia: Wow! What a flashback! I had that ages ago and never knew where it went! ;) G2's cookout: Yes, that'd be great! And certainly chipping in via cash or food item would be a way to help. Cooking for FTers: Hmmm... okay, so I see myself having to cook for Alysia and MileageAddict. Of course, the REAL gourmet chef around here, from what I hear, is the wife of a moderator on this board who shall remain nameless. ;) ... and on an totally OT note: If any of you local FTers plan on attending the big wine fest on Sat., June 5, please note that I'll be there volunteering with a local winery, pouring samples! PM me if you want info so you can stop by and say hi! |
Hey there,
Just popped in to this forum. I will be in DC over from Edinburgh, UK July 21st. Any plans around then? Only in town 2 days though. Rich |
back in DC again, so gotta socialize
Someone please keep me in the loop for the happy hour schedules.
Thanks |
There will be something going on Friday, June 25th for anyone interested - SeeYa is in town and Tazi wants to make an appearance :) but whether its the airport or something else is still up in the air.
That said, will that be the June happy hour or are we also picking a Thursday earlier in the month? |

I hereby second bhatnasx's motion to skip the regular DC happy hour and make tazi's gathering the official gathering for June.
I probably won't make tazi's gathering though as I also have a ticket to Iceland for the 26th and have something else to do early morning on the 26th before leaving that evening. |
I've updated the first page to reflect the thing in Maryland. Like Alysia, I will be heading on out to KEF on the 26th. Except, unlike Alysia, I'll be flying from JFK because I couldn't get tickets to price out from BWI. So I'm actually going to be heading up on Friday night after work most likely & spend the night at my sisters place in Manhattan before flying out on the 26th. Enjoy the dinner. I'll update it if someone posts exactly where it is.
|
Since SeeYa won't be getting in until around 8:30pm, having this at the airport would probably be too inconvenient. How about M & S Grille? I think happy hours were held there in the past and it is located near a metro stop. I have to work until 7pm so could probably get there by 8pm.
I do exist! |

I'll be in town on the 25th; M&S Grille or the airport sounds good.

Probably get $5 if you offered it on eBay the way folks bid on all kinds of whacky stuff. :p |
I've never even heard of a transmedia card...ah, youth! ;)
I've updated the first page to reflect M & S grill in DC on the Friday, June 25th - I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it or not as I'll be heading up to JFK by train the next morning to go to KEF (couldn't get tickets out of BWI! :D) |
For the August do, I would like to do it Thursday the 12th or Friday the 13th. Friday would be good if people don't mind a Friday do. I have one webber grill. I might be able to borrow a neighbors too. People can bring potluck to share, and maybe contribute to the buying of burgers and dogs. I will have vodka and gin martinis, chips and snacks, and some burgers and dogs and rolls. I need to know how many people. I will need to make a COSTCO run! Also, I will PM or email people directions since I don't want my address plastered all over the internet. Maybe we can get a keg too. What do you all think?
I also have a tacky white trash three and half feet deep, 15' around above ground inflatable pool for anyone who will want to stand in the water and drink. August in DC is hot! |
I agree with you G2 -- a Friday night would be better for this type of event.
That being said, however, I will be unable to make it. I have a ticket to leave DCA on 8/13 @ 4 PM for the weekend. Have fun! |
Friday the 13th?
Currently, the 13th works for me as well too. I've got a Weber charcoal kettle style that I could bring over if need be (also got a beautiful cast-iron cooking surface Charbroil gas grill as well that makes the perfect grill marks that I'll be cooking on tonight - too big to bring over though).
I'll update the first page. |
