Bump!

Anyone interested in the Monthly Happy Hour for October 15th? Any other dates? Locations? Recommendations?

I think that Joh and Oz’s trip to DC & the crabfest associated with that will be the November Happy Hour.

I may try to make the Hotel Washington. You talking about roof top or somewhere else?

bhatnasx Oct 2, 2003 7:01 am

Honestly, I don't have a clue - If the rooftop is open & enclosed, I imagine that's the location - I've never been there - I just took it over from the suggestions on the previous thread.

The rooftop is open with an awning. There doesn't seem to be much interest, should we reschedule or skip October? I'm still in.

bhatnasx Oct 2, 2003 3:01 pm

I'm thinking that we may need to reschedule - I've got 2 more trips this month and I've been slammed at work. I'm still down for the 15th. If we have more than 5 or so people, we can still do it, but I think that the November event will be big enough to make up for it. So if we don't have more people interested by Monday the 13th, I think we should skip - I'll check again then and update the top post.

gleff Oct 2, 2003 6:01 pm

I'd love to join folks again -- I just won't know about the 15th until the 13th.

(Sad thing is that I often don't know my availability until the week actually starts. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif )

headinclouds Oct 4, 2003 11:03 am

I was at VJ's last happy hour and suggested a place with a view. But I will be in London that week. If the next week, OK. Nov is out for me.

DaDOKin DC Oct 5, 2003 10:48 am

It looks like I will be around on Oct 15, so I plan to attend (finally, Work schedule has had me miss the past couple).

AS for Nov, I will know better in a few weeks.

I can probably make the 15th.

danang Oct 6, 2003 1:01 pm

I can probably make the 15th as well... not only would it be my second FT get-together, but it would be my second happy hour of that evening. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

East Coast Wing Oct 7, 2003 3:13 pm

The 15th works for me...looking forward to meeting everyone!

bhatnasx Oct 11, 2003 10:06 am

Just a friendly bump back to the top in case others didn't see it - See you all on the 15th!

bhatnasx Oct 14, 2003 2:18 pm

Another friendly bump to the top. I don't think gleff will be able to make it as he's got a late Wednesday flight back in. See you all tomorrow!

kokonutz Oct 14, 2003 5:20 pm

I will attempt to make it...

ozstamps Oct 15, 2003 1:47 am

Hope you folks have a GREAT evening tonight, and Joh and I do look forward to catching up with many of you next month for CRAB on Friday November 7, or maybe lunch on Sunday November 16? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I would be amenable to a lunch on 16 Nov or a drink and a bite anytime between 13 - 17 Nov, as I will be in Washington on a spot of R&R(escaping the grim reality of turning 50). Regards. Al

Hey .. get yourself a mileage run to IAD for November 7 or November 16 maybe. Saturday night stay is a cinch for either. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Remember 2 stays at the Hyatt Dulles (or any Hyatt) even on Priceline at $45 if you pay for a phone call or Coke (or any incidental) on a Mastercard gets you a FREE Hyatt night worldwide - even in $400 hotels. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The wonderful things you learn at FT dinners - and this one I only picked up last Saturday at a HNL FT dinner:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum60/HTML/001987.html

For anyone worried about driving home that lives a ways out, grabbing this Hyatt on PL may be an idea?

bumping it up to remind people!

bhatnasx Nov 6, 2003 6:08 pm

a "see you tomorrow" bump!

bhatnasx Nov 8, 2003 9:28 am

It was good to see all those who showed up last night. We had Oz & Joh, thezipper, gleff, mileageaddict (and his family, his 6 year old son has more mile banked than I do!), whlinder & lmlinder, and jhopper06 (my friend that's registered, but has never posted!)

bumpin' it up to think about next month...

Any ideas for December's Happy Hour? For me it will be relatively busy month. The last 2 happy hours have been in DC and Virginia, so I'm guessing that this months will be in Maryland. As we normally do them on Thursdays, I would recommend doing something on December 11 or 18th, as the Thursdays after that are Christmas & New Years.

</font>
We don't do Maryland anymore as too many of us had trouble remembering our passports in order to get across the Maryland border.

and more importantly we remember that traffic nightmare getting to Bethesda the last time and finding that everyone who attended had come from VA and DC in the mess. My vote is VA or DC, of course my new client is IN bethesda so I might change that tune in Jan/Feb http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

jasons2e Nov 12, 2003 2:48 pm

Looks like I missed happy hour this month (and apparently every month prior since I didn't know it existed) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Any plans for next month? I'll be in town the first two weeks of December.

We are doing lunch on Sunday. Join us! There is a another thread about this.

bhatnasx Nov 12, 2003 3:13 pm

I'm all about VA and DC. I live in Arlington and work in Bethesda, so I'm pretty flexible! But VA is always preferable because parking is usually free and DC isn't too bad, but MD has those terrible MD drivers! So does anyone have any suggestions? I'm also in town the first 2 weeks of December, but gone/super busy towards the end (lots of people coming from out of town & getting ready to travel to BKK)

Alysia Nov 12, 2003 3:23 pm

Well, since it is December, is there any place that is festive that we could go to?

Union Station is always decorated nicely this time of year. We did Union Station in May, but there are a couple of other restaurants there.

bhatnasx Nov 12, 2003 3:28 pm

I heard that the DoubleTree in Crystal City has a revolving rooftop restaurant - Does anyone know if that's true - or was someone just pulling my leg?

liveon777 Nov 12, 2003 5:49 pm

Can relative newbies attend these?

Alysia Nov 12, 2003 6:12 pm

Well, we are somewhat exclusive and you must first go through an initiation process.

Just don't tell liveon777 what the initiation process is in advance. Remember -- you're sworn to secrecy. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

bhatnasx Nov 13, 2003 6:41 am

To get the ball rolling on this, I recommend we go with Thursday, December 11. Union Station sounds like a fine place to meet (metro accessible & a parking garage). Does anyone have a particular restaurant at Union Station they'd like to eat at?

Alysia Nov 13, 2003 6:46 am

Well, we ate at that America place back in May. So for variety, we could go someplace else. There's a Pizzeria Uno and what else?

It does and it has a good happy hour that several FT'ers have attended several times. It has a great view of DC and also the air traffic coming in and out of DCA. Definately a good place for a get-togerther.

I'd be interested in checking out the Doubletree in Crystal City. How does that sound, Alysia?

Fine by me. I only suggested Union Station because it will be December and it is so festively decorated.

nor4 Nov 13, 2003 3:04 pm

And don't forget the great model train set-up they do every year at Union Station. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif Also, if anyone's inclined, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif right across the street is a microbrewery that serves pretty good food.
