See you all tomorrow!
|
Well hey!
I've been out of circulation for a couple months, return to FT and find that the next DC do coincides with yet another trip of mine - excellent! I'll see you guys there. |

Good to see some new faces this month & good to see that we still have some international influence - Charteuse was in town for his second one of these from the UK.
Currently we're looking at Thursday, April 8, at the Key Bridge Marriott in JW's Steakhouse - it's a 14th floor restaurant overlooking the Potomac & the Kennedy Center and the Monuments - a great view with a great restaurant. I think that this one will be a great experience. I've been to the restuarant at the Key Bridge many times and it's got some of the best steaks in Arlington. Sometimes they are closed for special events, so I'll try to get in touch with them next week and make reservations. If you plan on attending, please post here so that I can give them an idea of how many people to expect & see if we can't get a nice corner table overlooking Georgetown & the Potomac. Details, as usual, will be posted on the first page. |
I realized today that I spent the entire evening thinking that Chartreuse's FT hat was "Chartre." Blame the lound 80's music, the martinis and the distracting disco ball for my confusion. Chartreuse, if you are reading - that is why I asked if you lived in Chartre and why I was talking about it.
Good to meet some new faces and see some old ones. Bhatnasx was a good host and shared cigarettes, as did Chartre. ejs99 pointed out that I am closer in age to his parents than I am to him. From now on, he has to address me as "ma'am." Silver Springer, MrAOK, HeadintheClouds, Going Away, the Zipper, DHacker, Alysia and Nor4 were all in attendance. I apologize to those whose names I missed. It was loud in there and I didn't catch everyone's FT handle. Also, the revolving floor and the two martinis made me forgetful. BTW, how do you bold FTer's names? |

Or to put it simply:
[b ] followed by the name, then [/b ] Don't leave a space between the "b" and the "]". I did that so the instructions wouldn't simply bold the phrase "followed by the name, then" and disappear from the screen. |

Thanks to all the DC folks for their hospitality, and the bhatnasx for his logistics. For the record, it was G2 who brought up her age, noting Samir's relative youth (for those who haven't met her, G2 could pass in age for my sister[/b]. While I won't be around for the April get-together, I should be back in May or June.

Just a quick update - I spoke with the Manager of JW's at the Key Bridge Marriott. They will know to expect us & we won't have to deal with pulling tables together & figuring out where to sit.
If you can make it for a great dinner & drinks (or just drinks...) on the 8th of April, please join us & post here so we have an idea of what the headcount will be so that I can make a reservation. I told him that I'd contact him by the Monday or Tuesday before. See you all in April! |
While I don't know what my April looks like yet I will try to make it.
|
bump
|
Well, I'll definitely be there on the 8th!
|
Sign me up. I'll look forward to meeting other DC-area FTers.
|
Although I will try, chances are slim that I'll make it. I only seem to be free when ozstamps is in town! Last time I was there we watched Marine 1 (and several decoys) cruise above the Potomac towards the WH. They seemed to be at almost the same altitude as the bar.

Dang, I fly out on the 7th http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I might actually make this. With my movement to DC, I should without a doubt be out there that evening, I just don't know what I'll be doing yet.

I must have been a) drunk or b) giving a quote in Aussie $. |
Would love to come
Will have to look at the itin! Dave |

I do have the luggage tags, however. Where is the next DO? |

When the late Thur. DO s happen, I am game. Other than that, difficult to do.

Just a little bump so I can get an idea of how many people are coming so I can make reservations for dinner. I know we still have a few weeks, but I'd like to get an actual count by April 5 or 6.
Currently, we've got: bhatnasx (me) CapHillFlyer G2 gleff thezipper headinclouds idealflyer Maybe List: ElBoocho MyMiles2Go MRSTARALLIANCE Going Away won't be able to make it due to work. |
Bump, update, and thinking about May
Hello all - Glad to see FT back into action!
I just wanted to bump up this post for April 8th - if we can get a headcount a couple days earlier, that'd be great! Also, gleff e-mailed and told me that Techgirl, one of our wonderful Moderators for CommunityBuzz, will be in the DC area from May 12-14. So he asked that our May Happy Hour be scheduled for that time frame - currently, we're looking at 5/13, but it may be 5/14 - he'll update us & I'll post it. So, if anyone has an idea of a great place that's close to an Arlington metro stop (ideally, at gleff's request), toss it out there for May. There are quite a few restaurants near the Ballston area as well. We did Crystal City last month, are doing Rosslyn this month, so if anyone has any suggestions that may be near Ballston, that might be a good idea. I think Gaffney's Oyster House used to be iDine, but I'm not sure that it is anymore - but it's a decent bar/restaurant nonetheless. See you all on the 8th! |
I'll be there Thursday. My vote for May would be the 12th since I leave town on the 13th, but don't know if that is even an option for techgirl or anyone else. Also, you might want to consider Clarendon for something different, there are a bunch of restaurants in that area and there is a metro stop.

Just another quick bump...
Still trying to get an accurate headcount - Unfortunately, FT Community isn't as visible as it used to be, so I'm hoping those who are interested, see this & post back here - Right now we've got 6 definites & 4 maybes - anyone else?
It's really good food! |
Count me in for Thursday. I hope there will be US Airways FF as I have some questions about orphan miles.
|
Thursday would work great for me... I will likely fly in on Wednesday am and out on Friday afternoon.
I'll be in the Arlington area (Glebe Rd) but as long as someone can spin me in the correct direction, I'm game to go anywhere. |
I'm in!
Count me in as well, perfect to have a happy hour just 20 minute walk from home. :p C-U there

Can't Make It Tonight
Sorry, I've been on vacation the last two days and work is going to slam me today so I'm going to pass on this evening.
