Damn... I'll miss you guys and TG! Back to Bujumbura for me... Definately gonna wish I was there...

techgirl Nov 30, 2004 6:32 pm

I think I'm actually going to stay out by Dulles on Sunday night actually since I've discovered that the Phillips is closed on Monday. I'll still plan on driving in... but could any locals give me some decent driving/parking directions? I can do okay navigating DC streets... it is the parking that kills me every time!

Oh well... that just means I'll be forced to make a run out to DC some weekend in early January before the Calder/Miro exhibit closes. I *KNEW* I just should have gone to Basel this summer to see it!

If you are willing to walk a few blocks parking should not be a problem in the evening. I would try over by the restaurant and if that doesn't work, maybe on 19th or 20th street south of the circle.

As for directions everyone probably has an opinion on this but, I think the easiest is: Toll Road to 66 across the bridge, and take the lefthand exit toward the E Street Expressway. Exit the ramp to the Expressway (righthand exit) and make a left on 18th Street (2nd light). 18th to CT Ave. Left on CT Ave. Go around Dupont circle (stay on top of the circle, don't go under) and make a right on P Street. Then make a right on 22nd.

Bump to the top

pranu Dec 3, 2004 2:52 pm

Would love to join you guys at the brickskeller.

I will be driving in from Centreville, VA - so anyone need a designated driver/drive share from that area - I volunteer.

Edited - To remove directions. Didnt notice they were already there in a previous post. No need to confuse people with slightly different directions. :D

Looking forward to meeting you. Multiple sets of directions are OK. You might just teach us something. Although being from Centreville I doubt it :D.

pranu Dec 3, 2004 6:21 pm

Thats true we villagers don't know much about pressing big city issues like potholes and whats that big phrase you people keep mentioning....ahh thats right..."parking nightmares!"

Although on second thoughts I guess I am better of ignorant about these things. :D

This looks like it will be a fun Happy Hour!

Just in case someone is planning to be in the city slightly earlier - this seems to be interesting - http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...&type=allevent

Unfortunately, Ms. Astrojets had to have a little surprise surgery on her ankle. She's doing great, but she is in a cast. I'd feel guilty out at a bar while she's home with her foot up, so I'll have to catch the next happy hour!! I'm going to eventually get to one! :D

Hey guys,

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it tonight. I am fighting a nasty cold and feel like crap. I'll re-evaluate how I fell later today as I really would like to meet up with all of you.

bhatnasx Dec 5, 2004 7:21 am

Not Sure if I'll be there...

I'm going to try to make it, but I'm not 100% certain that I will be able to tonight. Debbie, if I can't make it, we'll be certain to share stories later...

pranu Dec 5, 2004 9:55 am

Hmmm... people droppping out left and right :( :(

Guess El Boocho and techgirl will be there as planned. So will I.

Sure hope we have some headcount there - dont want to drive in 45 minutes to find no one there :p

I went for a 4 mile run, took extra vitamins, a nap and kept busy with some yardwork. I feel much better. ^

Iowa ;)

Gator Gal Dec 5, 2004 6:41 pm

MA lives DEEP in the Virginia suburbs... so deep he's back out in the country and no longer technically in "Northern Virginia" as far as being in the "Metro DC area" goes... he's actually closer to the W. Va. line! But I can tell you his place sure is nice! :)

As for me, well... I just flat out forgot about today -- yikes! Busy weekend. But hey, guess where I'm at? At my boyfriend's... in CENTREVILLE! I hope you all had fun. :)

That's right...way out yonder. Gotta live way out here in order to keep my moonshine distillery a secret.

Hey! I had a great time last night. Awesome group of people. At the Brickskeller, I tried beers from Peru (ok), Norway (very good) and El Salvador (yuck). I wanted to try a beer from Lebanon but got "turned away at the border" aka not in stock.

After dinner, we all cruised over to northern Virginia and had a couple of tasty chocolate fondues at The Melting Pot. All of us shared various pieces of fruit, cake, marshmallows, etc and dipped them into a pot of s'mores chocolate and a pot of Bailey's Irish Cream chocolate. Oh man! Waaaaaaaay too many calories!

I have some pics to upload and will do so later. Markbach will probably beat me to the punch and have his pics posted shortly.

missydarlin Dec 6, 2004 8:44 am

Sorry I missed the phone call!! Sounds like y'all had a good time though.... especially the fondue part!

I've missed the past two of these things, but will REALLY try to be at Stella's on the 12th - I think this is one of thezipper's favorite restaurants & I've never been there, so I'd like to check it out.

I've updated the first page.

Did you really ACCIDENTALLY erase them or did you destroy incriminating evidence???

chtiet Dec 31, 2004 1:49 pm

I'll try to make it to my first ever FT get-together this time!!
Happy New Year everyone!

Hi all,

I know this is a bit early, but I'll be visiting your fair city at the end of March. I know your monthly gatherings are normally at the start of the month, but anyone is interested in meeting up, I'll be game (assuming the place isn't too difficult to locate).

I'll arrive on March 26, and leaving March 31, staying at the 4 Points Sheraton, Downtown.

It's never a bit early - I'll actually be out of town til the 28th as I've got a trip to Rome - however, we can definitely try to schedule something around that time frame. I'll post it on the first page.

pranu Jan 3, 2005 3:29 pm

Darn! Just found out I am going to be in NYC next week. Too bad I am going to miss out this time. :(

Catch you guys next month then!

That's too bad, Pranu -- Stella's actually has a garage where you could go in circles trying to get out :) ... I needed my clicker just to find the car a week or so ago and I'm usually pretty good with directions and knowing where I left the car

I don't think I'll be able make this one ... see you in February or March.

pranu Jan 3, 2005 3:46 pm

:D hahaha

I believe you when you say you are normally good with it - after all you were the one who managed to get us out that night!

Zoom Zoom

Oh geez! I forgot how funny and completely insane it was trying to get out of that parking garage! For you folks not there, imagine four or five cars belonging to FTers (FTers hopped up on gobs of gooey chocolate!) trying to get out of a complicated underground parking garage after hours. There were three exits but two of them were closed for the night. Of course, those were the two we all attempted to exit first. So...we are are zooming around in an empty parking garage, making our own shortcuts trying to get the hell out of the crazy maze! Amazingly, no accidents!

By the way, I regretfully will not be making it to the DC Dinner this month. I have a 6am flight the next morning...ugh.

Shame I will miss you folks Jan 12 at Stellas .. those $1.85 beers sound like they are worth a trip over on their own ... please sink a few for me. :)

A ladyfriend and I are passing via IAD to Puerto Rico on the evening of Jan 21 for an overnight, and back again arriving 8.30pm Friday evening Jan 28.

If anyone happens to be around IAD area for lunch on Sat Jan 29, please let's know as we do not fly back home via LAX until 4.28pm that afternoon. :D
