Hotel rates

Someone asked me about hotel rates the other eve, so did a quick check.

Four Points: 75Euro

Courtyard by Marriott: AAA rate of 51Euro or regular rate of 54Euro if you don't have AAA card

Hilton: 85Euro (pre-paid; non-refundable)

Nikko - Bernie's negotiated rate

Can you use points? We are actually using mileage for this one

Hoping you can make it to DUS. :)

Bernie, I am better than 50/50 for this now. I'll advise for sure in a week or so, and will be down for all that occurs if I do make it. Sorry for dithering, but do not want to miss a DUS Doo. :p

Punki's suggestion got me looking at points options. I can get a r/t F award from here to AMS for 180,000. However, weirdly - from here to AMS (same airlines) and THEN to USA (anywhere) is only 134,000. Go figger.

So we might fly on to Fairbanks Alaska (14 hours flying each way) for 46,000 LESS miles than just to AMS. Joh seems up for that and will need to visit relations in Holland while I attend DUS.

Please count me as a definite! I will be there. Not sure on hotels yet though. Trying to decide on using points or $$$$.

SonOfACockroach May 11, 2004 12:29 am

Put me as a definite as well. :)

Re: Hotels

I won't recommend the Marriott (and the Hilton) b/c of location. Cab fares will add to the rate.

If you'd all would only have told me that so many would like to stay at the 4pts, I'm quite sure I would have been able to negotiate a much better rate and I guess the negotiated rate at the Nikko will be in danger if it turns out that it will be just 4-5 rooms instead of 20 as usual.

Rudi May 11, 2004 2:28 am

those not at the Nikko might also miss a side-car or two ...

Counsellor May 11, 2004 10:19 am

The Nikko is much nicer (probably at least +2 stars) and has many more amenities than the 4-Points, but I'm going to be out most of the time, and besides, I need the extra nights to requalify with Starwood. :D

Although it's great, I don't think the Nikko is a member of any of the major chains for elite qualification purposes, is it?

prncess674 May 11, 2004 10:28 am

just booked the 4 Points for four nights. Total cost 14,000 points.

magic111 May 11, 2004 11:50 am

We booked the NIKKO at aa.com for $93.81 usd per night. The rate was only available for booking at least 3 nights.

We did have to pre-pay and after taxes it came to $110 usd per night.

This rate did not include breakfast but it is not a big deal for us when going to Europe for a few days. The first morning it will feel like it is too early to eat. The second morning we may want to eat and will buy it. The 3rd morning we will be leaving too early for the airport (before breakfast will be served) to eat.

Ditto. Except as of now I can only fly out at 7:00AM on Sunday so I may only use 3 nigths.

MileageAddict May 11, 2004 1:11 pm

Wow....only 48 hours until the DC meeting and I don't have schedule demands that would prevent me from attending...yay!

SkiAdcock May 11, 2004 5:40 pm

I stayed at the Hilton last year & will again this year being a Hilton gal & needing nights to keep Gold status.

It's about a 10-minute cab ride from Nikko/Bernie's/bars/4pts - about 8Euros. In the evenings (since they run late) you'd need to cab it. In the day, you can take the public transportation system (which is around the corner) or cab. If there's more than 1 person staying at Hilton, then cab costs can be shared.

This sounds much too good to pass up

We heard about this last night at the Delta get together in Boca Raton and we're coming if Bernie still can get us in on the events. Bernie, you have a private message from Franny and me.

Rudi,

I still have not had the pleasure of drinking a sidecar with you! A beer in Southern California but not a sidecar as of yet. Can you spare me a few minutes to sample the pleasure of your famous drink?
