I wish I could join you all. Was in SIN for the last couple of months, but now I'm back in the east coast, followed by a quick visit in DFW with my sis, before heading back to the west coast in sept.
As for places to eat in SIN, may I suggest west coast hawker center (past PSA building). They got decent selection (sambal stingray, try it only if u hv high spice tolerance). The place gets crowded easily, but the food is excellent.
There is an alternative seafood place at the old racecourse in bt timah. I haven't tried it yet, but visited the place once and found quite a big selection of fresh seafood displayed in glass tanks. For east coast, I used to frequent Red House. Try the chilli crabs with the buns. They are awesome.

JSD, your details are now updated.
I will update this thread soon with a local mobile number (i.e. one you can dial from a payphone at NRT for about US$0.10).
It is likely to be a tight squeeze timewise to get you guys much further than the departure lobby, but we shall see. I am clearing the decks that afternoon and will be on hand. Most likely the people doing AA to UA or simply UA all the way will be most likely to be ab;e to do the transit visa thing.
I will keep the details on the SINrun page current as they come in via either e-mail or this thread.

I propose that we get together for brunch on Sunday. I think there is a significant chance that many of us will be petering out by 5 or 6 pm so dinner may not be as good as lunch. We did the Ritz-Carlton last year and it was fabulous, I am sure that the Four Seasons will be just as good if not better. So how about brunch at the Four Seasons at 11:30 am on Sunday, Sept 8? E-mail me your name and # of people in the party and I will get reservations. The Four Seasons is also in a good location (http://www.fourseasons.com/singapore/vacations/quick_facts.html) to go shopping on Orchard afterwards.

You come all the way to Singapore and you wanna have "white" food???
There are lots of other places where the locals 'hang out'.
So what's the verdict?
Brunch (in airconditioned comfort, quiet, hoyty-toyti crowd, $$$ expensive by Sinagpore standards)
or Chilli Crab dinner (Probably open air, no aircon, but lots of zest and life.)
Saturday night or Sunday night...
(It isn't the same to have it for lunch..!)
