How about meeting in SAN?
After some suggestions on last night's chat and a breakfast meeting with sd1k this morning, plans are forming for a get together in SAN DIEGO! A full week could easily be filled in "America's Finest City", but most folks prefer Friday/Saturday/Sunday for FT events. Of general interest in SAN to out-of-towners are:
The Zoo
Wild Animal Park
Sea World
Harbor Excursion
Jet Ski or other watercraft rentals
Day trips to Mexico
Just relaxing on the beach
In addition, I would try to arrange behind-the-scenes tours of the airport (Lindbergh International) and perhaps the control tower.
Since this is still just in the talking stage, please consider this a "solicitation of interest". Please post here whether you'd consider coming to SAN for a weekend during the second half of July or the first half of August.
Anyone interested in dining on a breezy restaurant patio, sipping margaritas, and watching the world sail (fly) by in SAN this summer?

Capt,
Great idea. I think you have to pick a couple of weekends that are good for YOU. Then post the dates here and see how many of us are available. After that, you just sit back and wait. Good luck.
SanDiego1K seems like a nice person. Hope you had a good breakfast.

Shadow and Dan,
Thanks for your prompt replies! ANY weekend dates in late July or early August are good for sd1k and myself. Being a public school employee, I have the entire summer off, so I can devote lots of time to organizing a really fun get together! I'm finished with school on June 30th. Let the fun begin ANYTIME after that! Do people have preferences for dates this early? Or is it too far out to project?

A weekend in SAN sounds like the ticket for me. The Mrs. and I are both from SAN and are always in the neighborhood.
We have a yearly family pass for the San Diego Zoo. The Behind the Scenes tour at Sea World is pretty neat.
Count us in for a behind the scenes tour of Lindberg Field
