Chexfan,
Yes, it does look like the SAN event will occur July 20/21/22. Unfortunately, no weekend works for everyone, and we will miss you if you can't attend. Sorry. Please post immediately if you're able to change your plans, even at the last minute. We'd love to include you!

chexfan, we are really sorry we won't get to meet. The summer suddenly became very short when we started to plot dates around the Portland gathering, and Captain Mike's and my respective business obligations. We'll have to meet another day, another city.

We can't predict our July schedule yet, but will definitely show up if travel allows. Best wishes,
Scott

Advance information on SAN gathering:
Behind-the-scenes tour of San Diego International Airport will take place Friday, July 20, starting at 1:00 p.m. It will last 2-3 hours and will include visits to baggage handling, catering, and the "noise abatement division" of the airport. Come see why your luggage goes to MAD (Madrid, Spain) while you fly to MSN (Madison, Wisconsin)! Understand first hand why there's no filet mignon in coach! Also included will be a demonstration by the airport fire station staff and a tram ride on the airfield.
Plans are also being finalized for a tour of the control tower, but this needs to happen separately, on Saturday morning, July 21, probably around 10:00 a.m. Watch the people and the equipment with whom we trust our lives on every flight.
Both tours are free.
CAUTION: We have the "Comic-Con" convention competing for hotel space that weekend, so I advise people to book a cancellable reservation NOW if you even think you might attend. Anything in the downtown, convention center, or gaslamp area of the city will be closest. Mission Valley is a short trolley ride away. All major hotel chains are represented in SAN, so pick your favorite, book it, then continue to shop. Best weekend rate I've heard so far is $114 at the Mission Valley Marriott. Award stays are a possibility, too. Priceline is an option as well. I will discuss that option in detail in a future post. For now, get something in someone's computer just to be sure.
Hope to see lots of FT'ers in SAN this summer!
