Are most people arriving Friday evening or Saturday morning? I am thinking of booking the last flight out of LHR on Friday, though that would mean missing out on any drinks on Friday should they be happening.

I'm awfully sorry, that I can't participate in this great Do in a wonderful city.

It's my nephews birthday on Oct 8 th and he would be very sad, if I'm not joining him at Europa Park, a great amusement park in the southwest of Germany.

Could we get a few suggestions of where to stay please? Not being familiar with the area, it would be nice to get some advice from the locals.

Thanks

Until *A Flyer announces the programme we won't know for certain but if the pattern of Franconian Dos where the idea of this Do was hatched in 2015 is followed, there will be 'welcome drinks' on Friday evening followed by a dinner.

A number of FTers are coming from the US and many of them arrive on Thursday or Friday morning (most TATL flights are overnight flights) for similar Dos I have attended in Germany. Some people are combining the Do with a visit to Oktoberfest which ends on October 3, so they are likely to arrive early.

Although I haven't booked flights or a hotel, I plan to arrive on Friday afternoon. Even if there is no official event I'm sure there will be enough people around for a drink or three on Friday evening.

The locals are often not the best people to advise on hotels because they don't stay at them.

A search for "Berlin hotel" in the Germany forum finds several threads which may be useful.

i was just about to say the same the only hotel i stayed in berlin is a brewery with some hotel rooms, very good beer and a biergarten. But it is located in Spandau, several trainstations away from the hotspots.

I am not shure if I can attend but if anyone needs help in planning or has questions about Berlin i am pleased to help as a Berliner

Good question. The plan was for activities during the day on Friday and Saturday with a slightly lazier Sunday but can see that my wording was certainly unclear on this point. Given that some have already made plans, I have contacted those on the confirmed list to check arrival plans and will schedule around that.

Tentatively, we would be looking at:

Thursday: Pre-drinks
Friday: Wall Tour and Historic Berlin Walking Tour
Saturday: Tempelhof Airport and Spree Cruise
Sunday: Brunch and Farewell

Anywhere around Gendarmenmarkt, Alexanderplatz or Potsdamer Platz will be central and reasonably convenient to planned Do Activities.

I forgot that Franconian Dos usually started on Thursday evening rather than Friday evening and the main activities were on Friday and Saturday with a brunch on Sunday. Not that you have to follow the same pattern but it seems to work well.

Sounds good to me! I'm staying at Hilton on Gendarmenmarkt, as I find it to be very convenient--U-bahn runs underneath it!

can I be added to the "confirmed" list?

Do you have room for another attendee? If so, please add me to your confirmed list. I actually arrive in FRA Thursday morning, and will make my way to Berlin, hopefully by Thursday evening or early Friday morning. Then I return to FRA on Monday.
