We returned home from traveling over Christmas to find a certain John S was my second secret Santa who sent this great stuff from all over the world via California:

Some amazingly good IPA peanut brittle, a ceramic crest I know from upthread to be Swedish, postcards from one place we've been and two we still need to visit, and a large shell about which I know little, but it will be put to good decorative use. Thanks!

The "large shell" is a "demilitarized" round of ammunition converted into a bottle opener. The opening on the side is what opens bottles.

Well, checked with my apartment manager, no package for me. Guess I was on the naughty list this year.

Caliber diameters are goofy.

A .50 cal should have a brass case diameter of 0.804 inches and height of about 5.45 inches. The copper bullet (the part that flies) would be .510 inches

A .300 cal should have a brass case diameter of 0.532 inches and height of about 3.34 inches. the copper bullet would be .308 inches.

Do either of these match?

Perhaps? I don't know, although I do know a Santa has promised me that mine will be sent in January.

Thanks for the detailed info, it is .50 caliber based on both diameters, and 5.375 inches long. And yes, this really cool opener (or one like it) was featured on shark tank.
