For those concerned single ladies, the city is pretty safe and so are the cabs.
Thanks for the responses ^ A taxi sounds like the way to go. Do they take CCs, or should I grab some cash at the airport?

I always get cash at the airport - go through customs, turn left and there are a few ATMs beside the hotel counters. There are also exchange kiosks, perhaps even some in the baggage hall, but I can't advise whether the rates are good or not.

On arrival at your hotel, you may have to break a large (anything over AED100) note at reception in order to pay the driver.

I didn't stay at the PH but GH Dubai, at the airport there was a kiosk for Hyatts in Dubai. I went up, showed reservation, the folks in the kiosk immediately knew Diamond status & arranged for 7 series BMW transport to (& back) the GH, the rides were complimentary. This was a few years ago.

Is this service no longer offered or did I get lucky & it is only offered to the GH?

I called the PH and the agent I spoke with was unsure of this offer. If anybody has recently used the service, I'd love to see if it's still around. If not, taking a cab is no big deal.

Additionally, if you're booked at the PH, check out the summer promo rate that they've got. I just called and got the diamond line to rebook me at the lower rate, resulting in an overall savings of $250 ^

In Dubai they have cabs that are for ladies only - these are driven by ladies. Typically there are a few available at the cab rank and the guy looking after the line will direct a single lady to one of these pink roofed ones.

Probably a little less than 30 mins most of the time except late afternoon early evening during the week (Sun to Thurs) when traffic can add 10 to 15 mins to the journey. Defininitely not too far if you are aware of the journey times and are looking to enjoy the beach and pool complex at the Royal Meridien.

Well finally got my act together and I have flights held arriving 6/14 and departing 6/17 (to be precise: AUS-DFW-YVR-HKG-BKK/BKK-AUH/DXB-HKG-JFK/DXB-DOH/DOH-AUH-JFK/LGA-DFW-AUS). I'm not quite happy with the return routing, but this is good enough to upgrade me to CONFIRMED for the Do!

I may need to go juggle my Hyatt reservations, depending on what flight changes I make, but I'll be at the Park Hyatt for the weekend for sure.

Bump me up to Gold please.

I will be in Dubai on the 13th and leaving 16th. Let me know if anything is happening before the Do, and I'll try and make it.

Also, any idea as to what time the airline/airport event is on the 16th so I can play around with my flight times and try and make it.

I asked our company drivers who are quite familiar with driving through the Emirates. I live in Abu Dhabi and when I go to DBX, it's a hour and a half in the middle of the night and 2 hours with traffic but no congestion. I don't know how you can go the rest of the way in just an hour. Maybe you drive faster than I do. In any event, I wouldn't suggest the whole country as a day trip.

Thank you for your kind assistance with this. Although I'm shown as a member since 2005, I've just recently started participating in the forums and I don't really know my way around just yet. Hopefully we'll get the chance to meet at the Dubai Do. Many thanks.

Glad that youre coming. Are you flying into AUH, but departing out of DXB? Is this via AA & 1World? Remember, in order to get the summer promotion rate, you need to spend 3 nights at the same hotel to start things off. If you juggle things and come into AUH on the 13th, I can get you the dollar rate for a night at The Capital Gate, but you wont get the 20% off food and drink. (Unless we put it on my bill. ) If you then shift to the PH Dubai on the 14th, youd get the full promo there, as youd have the 3 nights.

As currently booked, I fly into AUH (on EY) and out of DXB (on CX). The GOAL was to do 1 night in AUH and 3 nights in DXB, but sadly with the award availability as it stands, I only have 3 nights total. I can either do 3 nights in DXB to get the promo or split the stays. It seems silly to not try out AUH since I'm already flying into there (though the EY chauffeur service would drive me to DXB too).

I still have a month to make changes, so I'll be trying to tweak things until the very end. I think I'm set on the AUH arrival date, so as long as it's cancelable I should get your discount rate applied there. Then I only have to modify DXB if the flight changes work out.
