Hope your birthday was a happy one.... by the time you read this, servus, it will either be or almost be over! Thank you for everything.... I enjoyed the little 'taste' of Prague tonight. Hergetova Cihelna, overlooking the Charles Bridge, was lovely. And I enjoyed dinner at U Fleku.... wish I could have stayed for a little more of what looked like was going to be some lively music. Dead on my feet though.... so an early night for me.
Again, many thanks, and Happy Birthday!

It was, indeed, a wonderful evening.
As far as the strike is concerned, I have been through this in other countries. The unions are not only planning a public transport strike but also blocking highways.
My suggestion: If you have a flight out any time on Monday, go to the airport Sunday night and sleep there.

Wishing you all a happy Do (from Holiday Inn Bern) - would love to come back but alas, France beckons.
To all the Aussie contingent, enjoy yourselves and Bundy Bear, see you in Toulouse soon.

I need to be at Frankfurt am Main Hbf at 1517h to catch a connecting train to Aachen.
a) What should I do? So far, it seems cancel the ČD ticket, book some sort of airfare and hope like hell I can get some 'compensation' through Travel Insurance.
b) Am I entitled to any compensation via EU channels? And how should I go about it (never had to claim anything under EU regulations before)?

anat0l, can't help you with all the mechanics, but LH fly 6 times on Monday PRG/FRA with th most viable one:
Dep 12:30 Prague Arr 13:35 Frankfurt LH1395 1h05 Cost: Economy CZK 18980
The next one doesn't leave you with enough time to connect (arrives 14.50).
According to xe.com, that's a hefty price to pay (1,067.95 AUD) but I know you MUST be in Aachen. Safe travels.
After further thought, I'd consider travelling the night before and overnighting at FRA. Use the Hilton Concierge as well, they were very helpful to us.

Happy birthday, servus! Hope you've enjoyed the day - I know I have!
It was great meeting everyone & seeing a few friends again. Please forgive me for not remembering everyone's names. I'll be lucky to learn them all by the end of the weekend! Looking forward to tomorrow's tours.
I have a far less urgent question than anat0l, but hope someone can advise me. Is the strike likely to extend beyond a few hours (or all day) on Monday? My flight is not until Wednesday, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead & book a (non-union?) car to the airport. I came in via bus/metro.
edit: anat0l might be safer to fly/rail to Frankfurt Sunday evening rather than risk getting to the airport and the chaos that is bound to be there on Monday.

flights cancelled from mich due to ord weather. Rented a car for ymm dollars and drove 4 hours through storm, arriving 1 minute before cut-off time. Phew! Thanks to fters who were on phone with me trying to figure out alternate routes and even held space for me on them. I'm exhausted, but glad to be on the plane

anat0l and others, when we were booking for our trip, we looked online and I ended up booking with a private firm where the owner, Chris, is an expat (from USA), now living in PRG. He has at least 2 drivers who are UK expats (Dave originally from Luton and our driver, Damian ex-Warrington). Damian is married to a Czech and had been there for 16 years.
I got quoted 30€ for the PRG to Hilton trip and took it, for much these same reasons are you anat0l.
If you want me to post his details (website details, he confirms by email and gives his mobile if required). I'll be online again in about 20 hours (after all, it's 12.40am here in Stuttgart)
Greetings from Hilton Garden Inn
