since you arent reading the posts, heres the summary of the plan: apply for ONE card....wait at least 65 days till AFTER the first charge appears on your card----apply for the second card, ....repeat process until you have churned all possible AA/CITI cards.......you can even repeat from step 1 I believe....(check with others here on that one)

Be Very Careful

I've got a Citi card since '91 so I've got "history" and a very high credit line. I've opened my share, and closed some too. Last time opened MC/Amex was 2/11/09 (got confirmation e-mail as backup in addition to statements). A few weeks back I couldn't find the M/C card so I called to have a new card issued... not opening a new account, just getting replacement cards. Today I thought "ok, it's past 60days I'm in the clear. WRONG. Seems like Citi took the replacement card as a pull. Also I'm getting the line... it's been less than 60 days since you got your previous 2 accounts.... UHH no. Give the exact dates of first purchase as an example on my second call. They say "no go". Also giving me the line you can only apply for ONE advantage card every 60 days (not so, but I'm not going to waste my breath... I'm a loyal Citi card customer... not just churning). Before the runaround I reduced the credit line on 2 accounts by 5K each just in case there would be a problem about offering too much credit to household. Still have more credit than I will ever use. I just want those 30K miles per account since the new changes w/AA.
So everyone count your days carefully but also don't assume anything, especially if you get the agents "off shore" which seems to be more of the norm w/Citi these days.
Good luck

it appears your case was isolated cuz you misplaced one card....but for hte most part, its pretty streamlined if you just churn the AA/Citi card.......once you start getting into these lil sideline trails like you did, its true problems could occur...and one thing to mention--if you ever feel you arent getting anywhere with the offshore reps, you can always request to speak to someone in the mainland........in fact, just phrase it like that.." I'd like to speak with someone on the mainland please..." and they will send your call to this office in N Dakota or Midland, TX,where I spoke to a nice lady with a southern accent.

Perhaps you just got routed to the Level 2 call center "off shore" where they have perfected their southern accents

My 60-90 days window has passed for my personal and biz AA cards. Does it matter if I do it like this (1 phone call each time):

1) Move most of the credit line from a personal AA CC card to my Citi MC Platinum
2) Cancel AA Personal card
3) Cancel my AA Biz card
4) Apply for 2 Personal cards
5) Apply for 1 biz card

in 1 day. Or should I time it better? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Shouldn't be a problem, but to be safe, I'd apply for the 3 new cards the following day, so 2 days total... Might as well let the ink dry on the canceled cards...

Nope, this is misleading advice. The 60 day clock starts with application date not when a charge appears. You can apply for two personal cards every 60 days (or wait 62 or 63 days for a cushion). If you only want to apply for, and churn, one card you can do this every 30/31 days. Business cards are on a different schedule. I don't mess with them anymore.

I read the posts and I asked questions to people to learn about their experiences. And, I agree with what philemer stated, the summary that you provided is inaccurate. I don't recall anyone saying the clock starts after the first charge. That's not my experience either. So, who's not reading?

Another option when you call them is to "consolidate" - they can 'cancel' one account and move the entire credit line to the existing card. You can then lower your CL if you so desire.

Similar thing happened to me once with a regular CSR. I had to ask to get transferred to somebody that could assist me and an Account Specialist took care of it.

This could be the end, folks

My wife and I have religiously churned Citi AAdvantage cards for some time, each of us applying for one AAdvantage Mastercard and one AMEX card every two months and one AAdvantage Biz card every three months (a few days after each churn cycle, just to be sure).

My most recent Citi AMEX AAdvantage application was declined, according to the rejection letter, because: "It is our policy to limit the number of credit requests that we process within a 60-day period. Our records show that you applied for credit with us within the past 60 days."

I assumed this was just a mixup (I had applied for a Mastercard card -- not an AMEX card -- within the past 60 days). But a customer service representative told me Citi's policy has changed: only one Citi AAdvantage card of any type is now permitted every 60 days. This is because of the high volume of multiple AAdvantage applications from people they've been receiving, she said. (I'd spoken with another supervisor before her who explained the reason for the card not being approved -- an approval within 60 days -- but hadn't been as specific.)

This, obviously, is a game changer, if true.

Any other Citi AAdvantage churners been approved or declined since Sunday (when I received the e-mailed notification the application had been declined)?

Yes, I received my rejection letter last week due to having already applied within the past 60 days. The thing is, I didn't think I had applied for the same card within 60 days. The card I had applied for was a personal Visa, however, I had applied for a business Visa within the past 60 days. I thought this situation was just me, now I see it's not. Unfortunate, very unfortunate.

To add: when am I eligible to reapply? Is it from the date I last applied for a card I received, or from the date when I applied for a card that was rejected which is more recent.

Yes, I was rejected yesterday for a Business Card saying a had applied within the past 60 days. I hadn't applied for one in the past five or six months, but I had applied for a personal card less than 60 days ago. It definitely looks like they are tightening up.

Update

Finally spoke to someone "onshore", both in the original call and then supervisor.
First they did see that it's been over 60 days since application (especially since I told them I can confirmation e-mail about approval and when first charge was processed). They are now claiming only 1 card (either Amex or M/C -- which is funny 'cause before I opened my card I did one for a family member who's finances I handle...both were approved so it might be YMMV... especially since her cards were other cards were opened in Feb. and w/both her/my accounts haven't opened an account since July of last year so there was a bit of time).
Then got a line about too many cards, applications closings... usually they say they have too much credit to household and ask if I want to move some $$ (which I do). So I'm not sure if things have changed since sunday (since I did get the 2 approved for relative yesterday). I've "only" got 3 accounts in my name presently, one of which is a M/C that's been w/citi since '91 (possibly prior w/different number) w/very high credit line (will never use it) that I've paid fee on and 2 others so I really don't think it's too many accounts. Also I only applied for 2 other accounts in Feb (approved) and July of last year so it's not like I'm churning them every 60 days. FWIT it's been great while it lasted. Luckily relative will never use the miles and will eventually go to DH for his lifetime status (which is good since his travel's been greatly curtailed this year w/office).
Good luck

Phil,
I agree w/you about the b-cards. Not worth it, though if things have changed I "might" just open one for relative just to see what happens since we really don't care about their credit rating... (old and not traveling anymore) just to try to squeeze a few more miles to (eventual) DH status.
THen again may open Starwood account for her and then just move them over to AA.... mmm that's a thought.
