FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

Two hits on the same day is better than on separate days.

Putting SSN as my tax ID worked perfectly for me. Good luck.

Anybody else getting constant "pre-qualified" offers for the Gold, despite having the Platinum?

Some background from a noob
- I opened AA amex /platinum visa using 2BM in April 2011 both still open.
- 65+ days later opened sole proprietorship business AA closed after 4 months
- churned business closed after 4 months
- Wife did the same steps as me but began in May 2011
- Thanks to flyertalk and citi, I then took my family of four on 4 week summer trip out west then Hawaii for almost nothing.
- Only two hard pull in last year most recent was 5 months ago

Now to the questions:
1) Given that I currently have a AA visa/amex open and I am under 24 months since my last personal app would it be safe to apply for the 50k person visa (link from post #1) then the 30K master card (still searching for post # ???) 65+ days later?
2) Is the AA business card really dead for me but the personal alive or am I just a noob?
Thanks for reading

I posted upthread that I applied for the amex on the first post ($3k spend for 50k miles, $150 statement credit). I was able to confirm the 50k miles, but not the statement credit.

Just an update that I was able to buy an AA gift card, and it triggered the statement credit. I read upthread that there has been issues with triggering the credit with Amex, so I'm relieved it posted automatically on my statement.
I have not yet met the spend, but I don't expect that it'll be an issue with the miles posting.

So the link in post 1 is alive and well.

Thanks!

Did the credit post when you made the purchase or when your statement closed?

I haven't seen 100% positive information regarding this anywhere yet...

Can you still apply for 2 personal Citi cards from different programs on the same day and receive both with just 1 pull?

An example would be 1 Citi AA and 1 Citi Hilton.

I believe the answer is yes, but am unsure.

Thank you!

I believe the answer is no since Citi is limiting now to 1 application/day. If not, people should have gotten approved for 1 AA Visa/Amex + 1 AA MC Gold which doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I just applied for Citi TY Preferred (instant approval) and AA Biz and got pending on that one. I did just cancel my old one this mornings though (97 days after last approval). We'll see if I end up getting approved for that one again or not - long shot probably. Not sure whether the 2 apps in one day changes affect personal/biz , or only personal.

On 3/5 my wife got the "We are currently processing your application and will be in touch within 1 week. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you."

Been clicking on the check status link they provided in the email daily. Today is 3/13 and still no decision when clicking the link. Anyone ever seen this much time go by without a verdict by either email or snail mail ?

Maybe a dumb question - in fact I'm sure it's a dumb question - but do you get 2x AA miles for AA purchases with the CitiBiz Visa in post 1? Bout to buy my next AA ticket with it regardless to get the $150 statement credit, but wasn't sure if I should use it for future AA tickets unless I'll get 2x miles. TIA!
