if you get a new passport within China you must transfer your RP across within the stipulated period or face stiff penalties (usually your consulate will remind you of this when you pick up the new passport). However, doing so outside of China is fine:

FAQs ? Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States of America.I get a new passport, but I have a valid Chinese visa in my old passport. Can I travel with both passports to China without applying for a new visa?

Yes, you may travel with both passports provided that your visa is still valid and the personal details including your name, sex, date of birth and nationality on both passports are exactly the same.

I don't fancy testing this for myself but I'm curious how they managed to swing that.

It was totally legit. I used my TW credentials. I've done it twice.

TW credentials to enter Macau, RP in US passport to return to Shanghai.

I dont believe the RP is considered a visa by the Chinese. Id definitely double check this with the embassy in whatever country youre going to as they will be the ones issuing you the green return to China code. What some PSB guy in Beijing says doesnt matter at all to them.

You provided pics! The problem for most of us here is that we don't have TW passports.

travelinmanS Yes, visas have been replaced by RPs. We will update the visa and TWOV threads soon.

There was a post in our Wechat group today (that I can't seem to link to) stating that Shenyang is going to implement at 28+28 quarantine scheme. I remember when we were complaining that 7+7 was a lousy deal.

The BBC has an article about Shenyang's 28+28 quarantine policy. That is the very definition of insanity.

Hope there is no contagion effect on the quarantine periods imposed by other Chinese cities.

It was reported in the NYT here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/10/w...uarantine.html
Which links to the official announcement here: http://www.shenyang.gov.cn/html/SY/1...145552860.html

However this second link is dead for me. There is a snapshot here:

Translation from Google Translate:
Shenyang grasps the centralized isolation control and later health management of immigrants
The destination is Shenyang, and the 28+28 control policy is implemented for entry

The nucleic acid detection time is the first 1, 4, 7, 14, 21, 28 days of centralized isolation, of which double sampling and double inspection are adopted on the 14th and 28th day, and the two antibody tests on the 7th and 14th days remain unchanged.
The destination is for immigrants from other provinces and cities, and they are transferred to the designated isolation hotel for immigrants in a closed loop for 14 days of centralized isolation medical observation. After the 14-day centralized quarantine is lifted, the closed-loop transfer will be transferred to the three stations and one off-sink, and the destination will continue to implement follow-up control measures.
After returning (returning) to the sinking people from the third place, they will be transported to the territories in a closed loop, and the district/county (city) headquarters will continue to implement the 14-day centralized isolation medical observation and other control measures.
After the above-mentioned personnel are released from the centralized isolation, the designated centralized isolation hotel will issue the "Notice of Release of the Centralized Isolation Medical Observation for Immigration Personnel".
During the health follow-up period, carry out a nucleic acid test every two weeks
In accordance with the requirements of the quartet responsibility, after the immigrants are released from centralized quarantine observation, the districts, counties (cities) shall organize the home health management of immigrants within their respective jurisdictions, and they shall continue to carry out a 28-day follow-up health follow-up. Telephone inquiries are conducted once a week, and nucleic acid testing is carried out every two weeks.
During the 28-day health follow-up period, immigrants must continue to conduct self-health monitoring every morning and evening, not going out unless necessary, personal protection when going out, try not to take public transportation, and avoid gathering activities. When the above-mentioned personnel seek medical treatment, the communities and individuals must proactively inform the hospital of their overseas travel history and contact history in accordance with the requirements of the "four-party responsibility".
In order to minimize the risk of the import and spread of the epidemic, Shenyang has fully consolidated the "four-party responsibilities", and focused on the centralized isolation control and subsequent health management of immigrants: immigrants with destinations in Shenyang implement the "28+28" control policy; health During the follow-up period, telephone inquiries will be conducted once a week, and nucleic acid testing will be carried out every two weeks.
"The'four-party responsibility' refers to mobilizing the city during the epidemic, fully implementing the four-party responsibilities of territories, departments, units, and individuals, and establishing a joint prevention and control system for the whole society." On October 15, the Shenyang Municipal Health Commission was responsible People interpret the centralized isolation control and later health management policies for immigrants.
When purchasing medicines, immigrants should take the initiative to inform them of their past overseas travel history and contact history

At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the management of drug purchase registration reports for immigrants. All kinds of pharmacies must actively ask whether the purchasers of "two antibodies and one withdrawal" have a history of overseas travel and contact, and register and report; when immigrants purchase drugs, they must In accordance with the requirements of the "quartet responsibility", actively inform me of my past overseas travel history and contact history; also effectively provide psychological counseling and humanistic care for immigrants after the quarantine is lifted, and urge them to be vaccinated against the new crown virus as soon as possible and the whole process as soon as possible, and to master protective skills in time , Improve the awareness of safety protection.

Asking for a friend. Father is US Citizen and mother is Chinese citizen. Father has spousal visa so no problem. But China's New York Embassy refused to offer their daughter (US Citizen) 旅行證 - what they offer to Chinese citizens children that are foreign citizens. They are wondering is this an official policy or just Chinese New York Embassy being j..ks again? (I had a friend that won't get any visa from New York's Embassy, but flew to California and got a visa right away from Los Angeles' Embassy).
