In that case, you probably wouldn't even find any driver from Didi (or other ride-hailing services) to respond to your request for a ride, at least until you agree to pay significantly more for it. It may still be worth it though as the cost would still be so much lower than most other places outside China.

It's not that they refuse once they responded to your request for ride. They simply don't respond.

I'm actually considering trying that transfer this week (I'd take Line 11 all the way to Jiaoda, which is a longish schlep, but far more appealing than line 2 to Lines 10 or 11) . I surveyed the scene last year before the airport link was operational, but was more less complete. I'm not sure how painful the transit walk is going to be yet, but I'd definitely be able to get a seat on Line 11 since Disney is the terminal station.

So, you probably will need to grab a car after you disembark. The next station (East Kangqiao) might work better for you.
Those train stations are uncharted territory for most of us.

Did exactly that today! Took the airport link line from PVG to East Kangqiao.
I was about to blow a gasket when Didi refused to work once I had exited the station, claiming it required a Chinese phone number, leaving me basically stranded.
However! There is apparently two different Didi shortcuts inside the Alipay app, going to the "Transport" link then "Taxi" takes you to the prompt were it requires a Chinese phone number.
But instead opening up Didi as a mini app takes you to a different version, which did not ask for any phone number at all. So it worked out in the end. Thanks again for the tip moondog.

I used my trusted old SH transport card for the airport link line, I did not see how much it subtracted from the card, but it was not much. The Didi trip after came to around 17 RMB. All in all probably the cheapest alternative.
If I had not fumbled around with the Didi issue it would also have been the fastest I think.
I will probably do the same again if I need to go to straight the office right away after landing.

Any tips on what car service to book from airport to hotel?
Taking the metro is not an option, and not keen on taking a taxi as first time visitors and the hotel car is overpriced so any tips to a reliable car service? Two adults and one child if that matters

Appreciate the tip on taxis but after reading the comments on taxis and scammers in this thread and being first time visitors I think we will try other options. So if you have any recommendations for a car service that would be great!

Didi is the most logical option in that case.

You can book car services on sites like trip.com or klook.com
